"I don't like electric." "I think it's a bubble that's going to burst." "And where are electric cars better than cars with internal combustion engines?" Phrases and questions that are said and retold. Volkswagen, as it prepares for its foray into the burgeoning electric car market, is trying to solve questions and shut mouths with one model. The reason is the VW I.D. R, which has been sweeping records on the tracks and in climbs. And, little by little, he's also starting to collect scalps from unlucky supercars that come his way.
In this episode, the model who last year broke the all-time record by climbing Pike's Peak in 7.57 seconds, did the same on the Tianmen climb in China (7.38) and did the legendary Nurburgring in 6.05. And, since the VW I.D. R was created to showcase the superiority of the electric motor, Top Gear thought to put it alongside a really strong rival. It "set it up" in a drag race next to a McLaren 720 S. And, to be honest, we all expected VW's all-electric racer to do what it's wont to do, putting some of the best supercars in this futile world to shame.
