The Volvo V40 / V40 Cross Country is one of the undisputed best-sellers of the Greek market in recent years. And in 2015, it continues its commercial success at an undiminished pace. It is characteristic that with 951 total sales in the first seven months of the year, the Volvo model is not only at the top of the premium hatchback segment but also in first place overall in the very popular 1,400-1,600 cc mid-size category, with a difference of 124 registrations from the next closest competing model!
Now, the V40 / V40 Cross Country range is enriched with a new version. The five-door Swedish hatchback is now also available with an all-new state-of-the-art 1,500 cc, 152 hp petrol engine, with the distinctive T3 code "giving away" the power level.
The new petrol engine is a four-cylinder engine and is part of Volvo's Drive-E family of state-of-the-art powertrains. It is combined exclusively with a new 6-speed automatic gearbox, which is standard in the car and for which there is no extra charge for the customer!
And the V40 / V40 Cross Country 1.5 T3 Auto is distinguished by all those elements that have made the Volvo model so commercially successful: Scandinavian design, dynamic handling, very rich equipment and top safety systems - it is worth noting that the Swedish model is the safest car in the world according to the tests of the prestigious independent body EuroNCAP! But what makes the new V40 / V40 Cross Country 1.5 T3 Auto stand out is the all-new engine mated to an equally new 6-speed automatic transmission.
The new engine has been developed exclusively by the Swedish brand. Like all Volvo engines, this one has a turbo. It delivers 250 Nm of torque over a wide rev range, 1,700-4,000 rpm, with peak power of 152 bhp occurring at 5,000 rpm. And as far as the European emission standard is concerned, the engine is Euro 6 class. As a member of the Drive-E family, the new engine shares design elements with the highly successful two-litre Drive-E engine. In particular, the piston diameter remains the same at 82 mm while the stroke has been reduced to 70.9 mm. In the design, Volvo's engineers paid particular attention to optimising the moving parts, with a focus on minimising weight. As a result, the engine, which also features very low-friction pistons, is particularly lightweight.
The 6-speed automatic gearbox, which is standard on the new model, has a torque converter, is electronically controlled and from an engineering point of view follows the design philosophy of the 8-speed gearbox fitted to the two-speed versions of the V40 / V40 Cross Country and larger Volvo models. It is distinguished by its compact dimensions and very smooth operation as well as a high degree of energy efficiency, which contributes to very low fuel consumption. The main feature of the new gearbox is the very fast and subtle gear changes and of course it also offers serial operation if the driver wants to do the gear changes himself. It should also be noted that gear changes can also be made by paddles on the steering wheel, for added convenience and greater control, along with more involved, sporty driving!
In addition, with a button on the centre console, ECO+ mode is available, in which the automatic gearbox shifts at lower revs for maximum fuel economy. In ECO+ mode, when the car is moving without the driver depressing the accelerator pedal, the gearbox is disengaged and the engine speed is reduced to just above idle to save fuel. The gearbox is engaged again when the accelerator or brake pedal is depressed.
For the launch of the new model and for purchases or orders up to 30 September 2015, Volvo Car Hellas in cooperation with the network of authorised Volvo dealers throughout Greece, offers the V40 / V40 Cross Country 1.5 T3 Auto at particularly favourable prices, combining the withdrawal benefit with additional benefits from a relevant promotional programme. Thus, the starting price for the V40 1.5 T3 Auto starts from €20,400 and for the V40 Cross Country 1.5 T3 Auto from €21,900.
