The times... and European policy, are calling for a transition to electromobility in order to mitigate the effects of climate change! Manufacturers are obeying and adding pure electric versions to their range of models! The Peugeot e2008 is the electric alter ego of 2008 and our weekly symbiosis with it left us with a variety of impressions!
Meet
The Peugeot 2008 was introduced to us in 2013 as a B-class crossover that combined elements of an SUV and an all-rounder. It remained in production until 2019, the year in which it was replaced by the second and current generation, now as a pure SUV.
Η Peugeot offers the new 2008 with petrol and diesel engines and of course as an electric car.
As for Peugeot's nomenclature, the 0 in the centre was just a circle where the crank was inserted in the early models while the two zeros are essentially the "∞" symbol!
In terms of sales in 2008, it succeeded in winning the trust of the consumer from the very first years, with the second generation entering the sales arena even more dynamically, deservedly winning the title of "Best-Seller" !
External design
The Peugeot 2008 adopts the French brand's new, more aggressive Family Look, with more pronounced elements of a pure SUV without sacrificing practicality!
In particular, at the front, the large bumper with the vertical turn signals at the edges in fang shape that incorporates the distinctive grille with the lion in the centre and is flanked by the trapezoidal lights with LED graphics depicting "the lion's claws"! The image is completed by the flat bonnet with its pronounced fins, giving it a fierce "look"!
Clean lines, sharp edges and muscular surfaces form the characteristic profile of the Peugeot 2008! The ground clearance, the plastic bumpers and the nickel-plated surfaces accentuate the SUV look.
At the rear, the protruding bumper and the almost vertical fifth door stand out, increasing the levels of functionality and practicality! The very slim rear lights bodies are mounted horizontally, have the LED "signature" lion's claws and are joined together by a black plastic frame with the Peugeot branding, giving the impression that they are one!
Internal
One of the main features of the Peugeot 2008 and e2008 is the design and layout of the interior!
The "space" dashboard is impressive and gives the feeling as if it came from the future! Responsible for this is our familiar i-Cockpit, which in the GT-Line version of our test car is flanked by the digital and 3D instrument panel on a 10-inch colour screen, and is located behind the minimalist and elegant polygonal steering wheel!
Centrally emerges the screen also of the 10-inch multimedia system, compatible with Android Auto and Apple Airplay for their handling and the flow of electricity!
The clever design of the two-level dashboard is reminiscent of an airplane cockpit. The piano style switches above the central tunnel and the gear selector, which resembles an aircraft control, follow the same philosophy. Between the seats are cup holders, the electronic parking brake and the drive mode selector switch!
Ergonomically, all the necessary controls are at the service of the driver, so that he does not take his eyes off the road, making his life easier!
The build quality is above average for the class, having used excellent quality materials with good fit and finish, creating a welcoming cabin!
The GT Line version's semi-back seats are focused on comfort and very good lumbar support for the occupants' bodies. The spaces are among the largest in the class with plenty of interior compartments, good space distribution and top levels of practicality! The boot reaches 405 litres and with the seats fully folded it reaches 1015! (Slightly reduced compared to conventional versions).
Drive train - Battery
Under the bonnet we find the familiar Stellantis electric motor that produces 136 hp and 260 Nm of torque. It is based on the advanced eCMP platform, which is the electric version of the CMP, and on the floor under the seats is a 50 kWh water-cooled lithium-ion battery, which gives a nominal electric range of 340 km!
On the road
The technical characteristics, the 136 hp and 260 Nm of the electric version of the Peugeot 2008 leave a lot to be desired for everyday life in real-life situations and driving conditions, with the only question mark being the electric autonomy! Let's get to know it in detail!
In the city one would appreciate the all-electric drive system. Particularly in congested traffic conditions, the choice of the ECO program seems ideal, as the horsepower is reduced to 80 hp, making the corresponding economy. At the same time, the high driving position and vertical glass surfaces offer ideal visibility for driving in narrow streets! The car is agile and incredibly nervous, looking particularly friendly for everyday use in the urban fabric!
In the mountain and rural network moves well and steadily, highlighting the robust eCMP chassis. The suspension is softly tuned, focusing on interior comfort! It could be described as a leisure car, which does not focus on sports driving, but on the pleasure of the ride! Ideal driving modes are Normal which delivers 110 horsepower, or Sport which allows the engine to deliver the full 136 horsepower available! In this option, the drive becomes more exciting, however, the consumption of... of precious electricity increases!
On the motorway driver and passengers will appreciate the ride quality and sound insulation. Ideal driving modes are Normal and Sport, as well as on the country road, depending on the driver's mood. Top speed is electronically limited to 150 kilometres per hour! Note that if you need to travel miles, driving should be done with caution, so as not to be surprised by the range of electric autonomy.
General is a pleasant and easy-to-drive car, suitable for everyday use, which safely satisfies the transport needs with three driving modes.
Who it is aimed at
As an all-electric proposition, the Peugeot e2008 is aimed squarely at those who have chosen to experience electrification! As the family's main or second car to meet their daily mobility needs, economically and ecologically! But also to resort to short getaways!
Price
In the catalogues the Peugeot e2008 starts from 39.500€, with the GT-Line version of the test car costing 43.900€, however with the subsidy of the "I'm moving electric" program the prices are 31.500€ and 35.900€ respectively!
