25 years of BMW M Safety Cars in MotoGP

The Grande Prémio de Portugal, which will take place from 24 to 26 March in Portimão, marks the start of an anniversary season for BMW M. This is the 25th year that a BMW M has been the MotoGP™ Safety Car. The close partnership with Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder of the MotoGP™ World Championship, dates back to 1999.

The Grande Prémio de Portugal, which will take place from 24 to 26 March in Portimão, marks the start of an anniversary season for BMW M. It is the 25th edition of the Grande Prémio de Portugal.η year that a BMW M is the MotoGP™ Safety Car. The close cooperation with Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder of the MotoGP™ World Championship, dates back to 1999. The new BMW M safety car will make its debut at the start of the anniversary season in Portugal. The new BMW M2 MotoGP™ is based on the new BMW M2, which made its world premiere in October.

The new BMW M2 impresses with the traditional characteristics of a high-performance sports car - in a concentrated form and with cutting-edge technology. With its compact dimensions and 460 hp TwinPower turbo inline 6-cylinder engine, the new BMW M2 is the ideal basis for a BMW M safety car. The BMW M2 has been equipped with various safety car components for use on the MotoGP™ circuits. These elements include a roll bar, RECARO seats, 6-point racing belts, a fire extinguisher, the safety car's roof light bar and matching front light. Various M Performance components have also been fitted, including an exhaust system, frame, carbon mirror covers, diffuser and rear wing. The BMW M2 MotoGP™ will have the standard BMW M safety car colours. In addition to the BMW M2 MotoGP™, the 2023 safety car fleet also includes several other safety cars, medical and official BMW M vehicles, as well as BMW M 1000 RR safety motorcycles.
