At the Ferrari World Finals at the Mugello Circuit, Ferrari unveiled the 499P Modificata, an exclusive track-only vehicle created to mark its remarkable return to top endurance racing in 2023. This vehicle, a refined version of the 499P that won the Centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, seeks to redefine the excitement of driving on the track.
Aimed at an elite clientele, the 499P Modificata heralds a new venture for Ferrari: the creation of a track-focused car derived directly from a race car, but not constrained by regulatory limitations. This freedom from FIA WEC regulations enabled Ferrari engineers to make significant improvements, further elevating the driving experience. The key technological upgrades that distinguish the 499P Modificata from the 499P include an electric axle with four-wheel drive functionality even at low speeds, the "Push to Pass" mode that provides an extra burst of 120 kW of power, specially designed Pirelli tyres and a total recalibration of the suspension, electronics and engine dynamics.
Retaining the design and ergonomics of the 499P's cockpit, the 499P Modificata offers an identical driving atmosphere to that experienced by the winning #50 and #51 race car teams at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Its 499P lineage makes it Ferrari's most powerful non-racing track car. In addition, starting in 2024, these cars will be part of the new Sport Prototipi Clienti programme, which will run alongside the existing F1 Clienti programme, making it easier for owners to enjoy multiple events at world tracks annually while benefiting from Ferrari's logistical, on-track and maintenance support.
The heart of the 499P Modificata
The 499P Modificata features a hybrid engine that combines a V6 internal combustion engine with an electric motor on the front axle. This configuration delivers a maximum power output of 870 hp, without being bound by FIA-ACO rules. While its engine mirrors the design found in the 296 GT3, it has been thoroughly refined by Ferrari. In particular, the 499P Modificata's V6 engine is structurally integrated. In addition, it features a 272 horsepower electric motor with ERS, an 800-volt battery with Formula 1 knowledge influences and a seven-speed sequential gearbox.
The architecture behind its design
The 499P Modificata is built around a monocoque carbon fibre frame. It incorporates advanced features such as push-rod suspension, brake-by-wire and engine design that increases riding pleasure and predictability. The vehicle also features special Pirelli tires designed for quick warm-up and continuous traction.
vehicle dynamics
This car introduces many innovative elements. The front axle can be activated at lower speeds, enhancing responsiveness and precision. The "Push to Pass" mode provides an additional power boost, conceptually paralleling the Formula 1 KERS system. The tyres, specially made by Pirelli, are aimed at non-professional racing drivers, balancing fast warm-up and sustained grip.
Design
In collaboration with the Ferrari Styling Centre, the 499P Modificata exudes Ferrari DNA through aerodynamic and aesthetic design. Its rear design highlights a harmonious blend of technology and aerodynamics, with a pronounced multi air intake feature.
SPORT PROTOTIPI CLIENTI
Historically, Ferrari's heritage is intertwined with endurance racing. Celebrating this glorious past, the 499P Modificata is a tribute to the legends of endurance racing. From 2024, Ferrari's Corse Clienti department will oversee the "Sport Prototipi Clienti" program, offering 499P Modificata owners unparalleled support during track events.
