Good morning dear listeners and welcome to the third TSF1 Podcast for the 2024 World Endurance Championship season, this time for the 6 Hours of Spa.
Hertz Team JOTA, in their gold Porsche 963, scored their first victory at Spa, led by English drivers Callum Illott and Will Stevens. Their clever strategy for the pit stops before the red flag that closed the race proved decisive. This victory made them the first all-British duo to win a WEC top class race since 2014 and moved them up to second place in the overall drivers' standings, 22 points behind leader Porsche Penske. Porsche Penske, driven by Kevin Estre, Andre Lotterer and Laurens Vanthoor, finished second, maintaining its lead in the championship. The #50 Ferrari AF Corse Hypercar, which started from last place due to a penalty, fought through the race to secure third place.
In the LMGT3 category, the Manthey EMA team achieved an impressive double result. Richard Lietz, Yasser Shahin and Morris Schuring in the No. 91 Porsche 911 R LMGT3 took an unexpected victory, with their teammates in the No. 92 car finishing in second place despite an overnight rebuild. The No. 60 Iron Lynx Lamborghini team completed the podium after a late pit stop for fuel. We're going to discuss more, in the podcast.
