At the Paris Motor Show the Jeep introduces the new Jeep Avenger, the first all-electric (BEV) model in the history of the legendary brand.

The compact Jeep Avenger is the spearhead of a new range of all-electric models for Europe, which will be a key element of the brand's global electrification strategy to make Jeep the leading zero-emission SUV brand.

Designed and developed from the ground up as an authentic Jeep, the Avenger perfectly embodies the brand's DNA in a compact SUV with a distinctive combination of style, capability, practicality and cutting-edge technology.

"The new Jeep Avenger is a milestone for the brand, being our first all-electric model." said Christian Meunier, CEO of Jeep. "It offers the top features of a Jeep with dimensions that perfectly match the needs of the European market. With its launch at the Paris Motor Show, we are showing why it is an excellent and authentic Jeep alternative in the B-SUV segment."

Produced at Stellantis' highly efficient plant in Tychy, Poland, the new Avenger features SelecTerrain and Hill Descent Control systems as standard, which, combined with its long ground clearance and top approach, ramp and escape angles, offer impressive capabilities for the class.

In terms of powertrain, the Jeep Avenger is equipped with a new generation 400V all-electric system, consisting of a new electric motor and a new battery.

With a 100 kW charging capacity on a DC network, just three minutes of charging is enough to get 30km of autonomy, while 24 minutes is enough for the 80% to go from 20 to 20.

The mission of the new Avenger in Europe

Developed with the specific needs of Europeans in mind, the new Avenger is a compact SUV, which at just four metres long is positioned in the fast-growing B-SUV segment, which is the second most popular in Europe in terms of sales.

In 2023, the B-SUV segment is expected to reach 2.2 million sales, representing one in five sales in Europe. The new Avenger is positioned below the Renegade, complementing Jeep's offerings in this segment.

"The Jeep Avenger is the brand's first zero-emission model," said Antonella Bruno, Head of Jeep Brand Europe. "It will be the gateway to the Jeep range and will allow us to complete our SUV options, making it, our most popular model until 2024. The Avenger represents another level in the brand's electrification journey."

"The Jeep Avenger is full of emotion, fun and stands out from the crowd," Bruno added.

The Jeep Avenger will arrive in showrooms early next year and will be a smart and distinctive choice for those looking for a zero-emission vehicle. The Avenger aims to expand the brand's customer base, targeting those looking for a capable and modern vehicle, with compact dimensions and excellent space.

New electrification system

The Jeep Avenger is equipped with a new generation electric drive system that combines a new electric motor and a new battery. Thanks to the high power and torque, as well as the set-up of the whole, the Avenger offers an enjoyable driving experience on and off-road.

The new generation 400V system is the first to be presented by Emotors, the joint venture of Stellantis and Nidec Leroy-Somer Holding. It delivers 115 kW (156 hp) and 260 Nm of torque.

The new 54 kWh battery, manufactured by Stellantis, offers high energy density and an excellent ratio of nominal and usable capacity. Specifically, the battery consists of 17 modules with a total of 102 cells (Lithium-Ion NMC 811) and provides the Avenger with 400km of range in mixed WLTP conditions and 550km in urban conditions.

The new battery, which has successfully passed tests of more than 2 million kilometres, is extremely compact and does not reduce the available interior space. At the same time it is protected even on off-road routes by the long distance from the ground and metal protective skirts.

With the average daily distance covered by a European being 30km, the Avenger can recover the necessary range in just 3 minutes via a 100 kW DC charger. On the same charger, the level from the 20% to the 80% is raised in just 24 minutes. Similarly with an 11 kW AC charger, the charge (0% to 100%) takes 5.5 hours.

Top features

A key pillar of a Jeep is the capabilities it offers the driver on and off-road. Today, the brand is taking a greener approach, which started with the 4xe Plug-in Hybrid technology and continues with all-electric systems.

The Avenger is the first front-wheel drive Jeep to be equipped with Selec-Terrain and Hill Descent Control.

The Selec-Terrain system offers six options: "Normal" for everyday use, "Eco" for maximum range, "Sport" for higher performance, "Snow" for maximum traction in icy conditions, "Mud" for maximum performance on muddy tracks and "Sand", which reduces the chance of the vehicle coming to a standstill on sandy terrain.

The architecture of the vehicle is designed to be as compact as possible, without any compromise on Jeep's distinctive features. The Avenger is just 4.08 metres long, 16 centimetres shorter than the Renegade. At the same time, the very small front and rear protrusions and large wheels make its proportions even more dynamic. The small forks combined with the class-leading ground clearance (200mm) offer excellent approach angles (20ο), ramp (20ο) and escape (32ο), which are essential for off-road driving, but also extremely useful even in urban conditions.

Modern Jeep design

The Avenger's design approach is a modern take on the Jeep style in compact dimensions. The legendary front grille with 7 vertical grilles has evolved to a more horizontal layout for greater efficiency.

The grille provides protection for the headlamps in the event of a low-speed collision, while the trapezoidal fenders - another classic Jeep design feature - add to the sense of ruggedness. The trapezoidal fenders also allow maximum suspension articulation freedom, while all elements have also been developed with optimum aerodynamic performance in mind, such as the roof with its 'floating' rear pillar that also characterises the brand's modern range.

At the rear, the 'X' shaped lights, inspired by the classic fuel tanks, are applied to the Avenger in their most modern version.

360 protectionο

Aiming to reduce damage resulting from low-speed collisions, which account for 70% of cases in Europe, the Avenger has perimeter (360ο) protective surfaces, but also lamps that are also protected thanks to the way they are placed inside the mask.

These elements are estimated to reduce repair costs from minor accidents by around €1,000. Also the skirts on the lower part of the bumper are made of polymer material with integrated paint, so that even if they are scratched the damage is not visible.

Useful and spacious interior

The interior of the new Avenger exudes style, but also usability. The clean and rugged lines are inspired by the Wrangler, while the horizontal layout includes the air vents, hidden lighting and the 10.25" touchscreen. At the bottom of the dashboard, the open area offers plenty of storage space.

The Avenger has unique features for a model in its class, including leather seats with power adjustment and massage function, ambient lighting with a choice of colours and a panoramic roof.

The centre console has also been designed to offer as much space as possible, with 34 litres of capacity, an impressive price compared to the 15 litres offered by the average competitor in the segment.

For practicality and ease of use, the centre console slides to accommodate objects of various sizes, while extra space is provided under the buttons of the automatic gearbox, which is protected by a magnetic retractable cover. In this space a mobile phone can be charged and a 1,5 litre bottle can be accommodated at the same time.

The same philosophy of practicality dominates the luggage compartment, which at 380 litres is one of the best in its class. The loading sill has been lowered to just 720 mm, while the width of the opening is more than 1 metre wide. At the same time the door has a hands-free function, also something that is not common in the segment.

Leading connectivity technology

Built for those who want to be always connected, the Avenger offers a fully digital experience thanks to the advanced Uconnect multimedia system with its 10.25" screen and digital instrument panel (7 to 10.25 inches depending on the version). The system also offers wireless mirroring with Android Auto and Car Play, screen configuration with widgets, TomTom navigation with voice commands and online updates.

At the same time, through the Jeep Mobile App, users can locate the vehicle via their mobile phone, lock and unlock the doors, adjust the air conditioning, schedule the charging time, etc.

Advanced safety equipment

The Avenger is equipped with a full suite of safety systems that enable level 2 autonomous driving. The list includes, among others, active cruise and speed maintenance, automatic braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, automatic parking, etc.

Multiple personalisation solutions

The Avenger follows in the Jeep tradition of offering an exceptionally wide choice of customisation solutions, enabling the buyer to create their own unique Avenger. The options include elements for both the exterior and the cabin.

Construction in one of the most efficient factories in the world: in Tychy of Poland

The Tychy plant was built between 1972 and 1975 and covers an area of more than 2,4 million square metres, half a million of which is production facilities. The total production time from the forming of the metal plates to the completion of the car is about 12 hours and practically every 50 seconds a new car comes off the line.

Production at Tychy is organised to the highest quality standards, with the plant having been awarded Silver, Silver and Gold in the World Class Manufacturing programme, in recognition of its continuous process improvement and leading position in the global automotive industry.

The production plant applies an integrated production cycle in four stages: metal forming, welding - 99.5% of which is automated thanks to 921 robots -, painting - where the work is carried out automatically at 90% - and final assembly. The Tychy plant has manufactured an impressive 12.5 million units since it began operations in 1975 until September 2022. A series of upgrades were carried out to produce the new Avenger so that the plant could welcome the first all-electric model in its history.
