This year's Dakar Rally was relentless. Extreme conditions, unforgiving weather, long days and even more kilometres pushed the drivers to their limits.
But they also gave us amazing images and footage as the athletes of the toughest endurance race pushed themselves and their bikes as hard as they could.
Stéphane Peterhansel and Sébastien Loeb battled to the end, before the former secured a magnificent 13th victory. At the same time Sam Sunderland became the first British Dakar champion in the motorcycle category.
Last year's triumph of the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR was repeated in this year's Dakar rally by the PEUGEOT 3008 DKR, confirming the absolute domination of the French team with an unprecedented "1-2-3" where Peterhansel/Cottret, Loeb/Elena and Despres/Castera occupied all three places on the podium!
In their maiden appearance in Dakar, the PEUGEOT 3008 DKRs were the absolute masters, completing the 9,000 kilometres of the race after ploughing the special stages in Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina to finish on the podium in Buenos Aires. This was PEUGEOT's 6th victory in the toughest race in motorsport and was perfectly combined with the launch of the new PEUGEOT 3008, an advanced design and technology SUV that is also the dominant species in its class!
RED, WHITE & BLUE. Thirty years after the first success in the Dakar Rally (1987 with Vatanen), PEUGEOT made another show of strength in South America with a commanding 1-2-3. Peterhansel/Cottret are now the most successful duo in the history of the event, taking the French tricolour as high as the PEUGEOT 3008 DKRs managed in the particularly high altitude of this year's race with its difficult navigation and unpredictable weather.
NEO RECORDS FOR STÉPHANE "Mr DAKAR" PETERHANSEL. They say that the number 13 is bad luck, but Stéphane Peterhansel is one of those who overturned this superstition by setting a new career record of 13 Dakar wins (6 on a motorcycle and 7 in a car). Together with Jean-Paul Cottret, Mr. Dakar has achieved a unique record and the "duo" aims to set the bar even higher.
THE NEXT CHAMPIONS? Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena showed a huge improvement in their second Dakar Rally participation by setting the fastest time in 5 special stages and finishing the race with a relatively small gap to Mr. Dakar.
FIRST WIN WITH FOUR WHEELS. After their motorcycle victories in Dakar and their 7th place in last year's race, Cyril Despres and David Castera celebrated their first special stage win (on day 4) with their No307 PEUGEOT 3008DKR and climbed the podium.
AN UNFORTUNATE MOMENT. Although they were moving fast, on day 4 Sainz/Cruz had an unfortunate moment with a spectacular exit, while the damage to the No304 PEUGEOT 3008 DKR was too much for the Spaniards to continue the race.
A WORTHY SUCCESSOR. The PEUGEOT 3008 DKR proved to be a worthy successor to the huge success of last year's champion, the 2008 DKR. With only two-wheel drive, this year's race car proved Team Peugeot Total's superiority over the four-wheel drive competition.

Αντιμετωπίσαμε σκληρό ανταγωνισμό, όχι μόνο από τους team-mates μας, αλλά και από τις άλλες ομάδες. Η νίκη δεν ήταν εύκολη αφού ο Sébastien ήταν εξαιρετικά γρήγορος έχοντας πλέον μεγάλη εμπειρία. Sébastien Loeb (PEUGEOT 3008DKR #309): «Ήταν ένας καλός αγώνας για εμάς και παρόλο που τερματίσαμε δεύτεροι βρεθήκαμε πολύ κοντά στην νίκη. Μετά από ένα μικρό πρόβλημα με τον κινητήρα, δεν σταματήσαμε να πιέζουμε. Κινηθήκαμε με πατημένο το γκάζι σχεδόν όλη την ώρα και το χαρήκαμε φτάνοντας σε ένα εκπληκτικό ομαδικό αποτέλεσμα».
Cyril Despres (PEUGEOT 3008DKR #307): «Για εμάς ο τερματισμός ενός Ντακάρ στο βάθρο με ένα τετράτροχο ακούγεται σαν ένα νέο κεφάλαιο στις καριέρες μας. Όλοι στην ομάδα δούλεψαν σκληρά και στην τρίτη μου προσπάθεια με αυτοκίνητο κατάφερα να ανέβω στο βάθρο. Ήταν τέλεια και οι οδηγοί μπροστά από εμάς ήταν δεν ήταν άλλοι από τους Peterhansel και Loeb. Θα δουλέψουμε σκληρά για να γίνουμε ταχύτεροι και να μπορέσουμε να ανέβουμε πιο ψηλά στο βάθρο».
