The new BMW M 1000 XR: the sporty long-distance motorcycle designed to meet the highest demands

"The M XR is BMW Motorrad's third M model. Based on the current S 1000 XR and S 1000 RR , the product essence of the M 1000 XR - M XR for short - meets the special requirements of a long-distance sport bike. The dynamic ride speaks for itself, both on country roads and tracks and on long-distance journeys." -Dominik Blass, M 1000 XR Product Manager.

The new BMW M 1000 XR : the long-distance sport bike designed to meet the highest demands, from dynamic riding on country roads to long journeys
At the end of 2018, BMW Motorrad unveiled its successful strategy of introducing motorcycles from the M model range and has since offered special M equipment and M performance components. The new BMW M 1000 XR long-distance sportbike is the third M model from BMW Motorrad to celebrate its world premiere, following the M 1000 RR superbike and the dynamic M 1000 R roadster.

In BMW Motorrad's centenary year, the dynamic philosophy of the world's most powerful letter is also applied to the new M XR: The letter M is globally synonymous with racing success and the magic of high-performance BMW models and is aimed at customers with particularly high demands for performance, exclusivity and personalised style.

With 201 hp, a DIN weight of just 223 kg and suspension and aerodynamic technology designed for both sporty riding on country roads and long-distance journeys and fast laps on the track, the new M XR - as the lightest representative of the crossover class - opens up new possibilities for dynamic riding that were previously reserved for pure superbikes.

The powerful 4-cylinder engine of the M XR is based on that of RR . Higher peak power and torque, and increased acceleration and traction thanks to shorter ratios and final drive for unparalleled driving pleasure on country roads and tracks
The new M XR features a modified water-cooled, in-line 4-cylinder engine based on the power unit of the S 1000 RR. It delivers a maximum power output of 201 hp at 12,750 rpm, 31 hp higher than the new S 1000 XR. Maximum torque of 113 Nm is delivered at 11,000 rpm. The M XR's maximum engine speed is 14,600 rpm. The increased rear-wheel power in all ratios is supported by a shorter final drive ratio through the use of a gear with 47 more teeth (S 1000 XR: 45 teeth). In addition, 4th, 5th and 6th gears are now shorter than those of the S 1000 XR, which also benefits rear wheel traction, traction and acceleration.

Wings ( winglets ) M and air deflectors: Brake later, reduce front wheel lift and accelerate earlier thanks to aerodynamic vertical force
In addition to drive and suspension technology, aerodynamics was also a key priority in the development phase of the M XR. The new M XR has been fitted with winglets in the front side panel area with the aim of achieving even faster track times and the best possible driving stability at high speeds. From around 100 km/h, they increase the load applied to the front wheel thanks to the aerodynamic vertical force generated, reaching around 12 kg at 220 km/h.

The chassis is configured for performance-oriented driving on country roads and tracks with Dynamic Damping Control ( Dynamic Damping Control - DDC ), adjustable spring mount, adjustable steering damper, machined steering spacer and tubular steering wheel oriented even further forward and laser engraved inscription " BMW M XR
The suspension and chassis of the new M XR are based on the S 1000 XR, with the aluminium bridge-type frame as the centrepiece. The M XR features an inverted fork with a 45 mm front tube diameter and closed-type inserts with separate piston/cylinder separation systems. Another new feature of the M XR is the additional ability to adjust the fork spring base in conjunction with the standard Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) suspension knee.

The M XR fork also comes with an upper bridge with a precision-machined steering spacer and an even more forward-oriented tubular black aluminium handlebar bearing the "BMW M 1000 XR" laser-engraved logo. Also new are the optional factory mirrors that rest on the handlebar ends of the M XR. The fork ends have also been modified in design to accommodate the new M brake calipers. Another new feature of the M XR is the adjustable handlebar shock absorber.

Brakes M with radial cuff pump, lightweight forged aluminium wheels for optimal dynamic driving on the track and in the performance program   mode. Exclusive wheels M Carbon available as part of the package M Competition or as an independent option
After the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R, the new M XR is the third BMW motorcycle to feature an M brake system, which builds on the expertise gained from the factory brakes on BMW Motorrad's factory bikes in the World Superbike Championship. The M brake calipers feature a blue anodised coating combined with the famous M logo.

Together with two 320 mm thick 5 mm discs and black anodised aluminium carriers for the latter, the braking system equipped with a new radial pump on the cuff marks the culmination of the evolution of braking systems for legal road use. The new M XR already features very lightweight forged aluminium wheels as standard. The exclusive M Carbon wheels that are part of the M Competition package are available with newly designed rim strips.

Brake Slide Assist - assists the rider when drifting while braking
Brake Slide Assist is an important and very useful innovation, especially for track riders. It allows the rider to drift by braking in corners with a constant slip.

Instrument panel with easy-to-read display TFT 6.5 inch, new tachometer display (red area) and interface OBD for the M GPS Datalogger and M GPS Laptrigger that can be used via an unlock code
The instrument panel of the new M XR is similar in design to that of the M RR and also offers the M start-up animation. A new feature is the wider range of the red tachometer area. As an option, an integrated data hardware can be supplied for use with the M GPS Laptrigger and M GPS Datalogger (genuine BMW Motorrad accessories) via an unlock code and the dashboard's OBD interface.

The M Design and the dynamic design of the M XR mark the unadulterated performance and sporty character
With its optimised chassis technology and the most powerful engine to date in a dynamic, sporty BMW Motorrad long-distance motorcycle, even more so than the S 1000 XR, the new M XR is uncompromisingly designed for sport riding - whether on country roads and long-distance journeys or on the track. Right now there is no motorcycle in the crossover class with better performance and lower weight than the M XR. The proportions exude power and are extremely compact. The three-dimensional surfaces create excitement and a dynamic look. Slim, sleek and extremely aggressive, the M XR's front end is unmistakable with the new M winglets, designed as quad wings. The sporty character of the new M XR is also reflected in its colour philosophy, with the black body combined with M Light Blue, Dark Blue and Red.

Incompatible design and technology: Η M XR with the package M Competition
If the standard version of the new M XR doesn't adequately satisfy riders' sporting ambitions, the M Competition Package offers an exciting mix of enhanced components for both racing technology and aesthetics enthusiasts. In addition, this package makes the new M XR 3kg lighter. The M Competition Package includes M Carbon wheels, M Carbon components such as a rear wheel cover with integrated chain guard, side panels, front wheel cover, inner cover and central switch/steering lock cover, as well as a fully adjustable M rider sill, co-rider sill and MGPS Laptrigger (unlock code).
