The BMW 5 Series Touring enters a new era. The sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series Touring is more progressive than ever, featuring numerous digital innovations, innovative systems for automated driving and parking, increased sustainability throughout the product lifecycle and, for the first time, an all-electric version in the form of the BMW i5 Touring. The new BMW 5 Series Touring is an advanced charismatic model suitable for everyday commuting and travel, with style, sporty temperament, agility, spaciousness and comfort.
The flexible architecture in terms of powertrains allows different model versions with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines, as well as plug-in hybrids and pure electric drive systems, to be manufactured on a single production line at the BMW Group's Dingolfing plant. The launch in Germany, several other European countries and Japan will start in May 2024, with other markets to follow from June 2024.
Expanded body proportions, accentuated front end, distinct rear end
Dynamically enlarged body proportions and generously designed surfaces characterise the exterior of the new BMW 5 Series Touring. Compared to its predecessor, the new BMW 5 Series Touring is 97 mm longer (5,060 mm), 32 mm wider (1,900 mm) and 17 mm taller (1,515 mm). The new BMW 5 Series Touring has the longest wheelbase in its class, increased by 20 mm to 2,995 mm.
The distinctive front end is punctuated by a modern interpretation of the distinctive twin headlamps and BMW grille. Two almost vertical LED elements act as turn signals and daytime running lights respectively. The projecting BMW grille features optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. Viewed from the side, the flat glass surfaces and large roof spoiler emphasize the sporty, elegant two-volume design. The sharply sculpted rear wheel arches, along with the flat fifth-door window, accentuate the car's width. An L-shaped chrome bar separates the LED taillight elements, which extend to the side sections of the car.
The colour palette contains three BMW Individual shades. Standard equipment includes light-alloy wheels in 18- and 19-inch sizes for the all-electric and plug-in hybrid models. Alloy wheels up to 21" are available as an option. The dynamic character of the new BMW 5 Series Touring is highlighted by the M Sport Package, M Sport Package Pro and M Carbon Exterior Package options. As the top model in the range, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring comes with standard exterior elements that clearly express its highly dynamic character on the road.
Innovative cockpit , vegan materials inside
At the heart of the innovative driver-focused cockpit design is the BMW Curved Display. The 12.3" information display and the 14.9" diagonal control display create a fully digital display cluster. The modern luxury atmosphere inside is further enhanced by the new sports seats (standard equipment), the steering wheel, which is now flatter at the bottom, and the optional BMW Interaction Bar.
The new BMW 5 Series Touring comes with a completely vegan interior as standard. The seat surfaces in the Veganza version are also optionally available with decorative perforations. The larger luggage compartment opening combined with the low threshold makes it easier to load large items of luggage. Regardless of drive technology, all versions of the new BMW 5 Series Touring have a luggage compartment that can be increased from 570 to 1,700 litres. In addition to automatic tailgate operation, remote-controlled release of the split-folding rear seat backrest in a 40 : 20 : 40 ratio from the luggage compartment is also standard. The storage spaces under the load compartment floor can accommodate the partition grid, luggage compartment cover and charging cable for all-electric and plug-in hybrid models.
The all-electric BMW i5 Touring available from the beginning in two variants
The new BMW i5 Touring is the first all-electric luxury model in its class. It will be available in two versions from the outset. In the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring, two integrated drive units on the front and rear axles make up an electric drive system for all four wheels with an output of up to 442 kW/601 hp. With M Launch Control or M Sport Boost activated, system torque is increased to 820 Nm. The top model accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 230 km/h. The electric motor of the BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring is located at the rear axle and delivers a maximum output of 250 kW/340 hp and maximum torque of up to 430 Nm with Sport Boost or Launch Control mode. The BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring completes the 0 - 100 km/h sprint in 6.1 seconds.
In both models, the high-voltage battery located at the bottom of the body provides a net energy content of 81.2 kWh. In addition to the efficient electric motors, the adaptive energy recovery technology and the heat pump for heating and cooling the cabin, the drive system and the high-voltage battery contribute to the BMW i5 Touring's long-distance travel capability. The range according to the WLTP standard is 445 - 506 km for the BMW i5 M60 xDrive Touring and 483 - 560 km for the BMW i5 eDrive40 Touring.
Innovative charging solutions from the BMW Charging
The battery can be charged with AC power up to 11 kW as standard and up to 22 kW optionally. The high-voltage battery can be charged with direct current up to 205 kW. Preventive thermal management for the high voltage battery optimises efficiency when using fast charging stations. The Connected Home Charging ecosystem for all-electric and plug-in hybrid models creates conditions for solar charging as well as load- and cost-optimised charging. The BMW i5 Touring is also suitable for Plug & Charge Multi Contract mode.
Young people diesel engines with mild hybrid technology 48- Was
All diesel engines available for the new BMW 5 Series Touring are combined with 48 Volt mild hybrid technology and an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. The four-cylinder engine in the BMW 520d Touring models available at the market launch and BMW 520d xDrive Touring delivers a maximum output of 197 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The engine range will be supplemented by a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine in the summer of 2024. At the same time, two model versions with the latest generation of plug-in hybrid drive systems will follow.

Upgraded suspension technology includes standard sports steering, direct control and wheel slip limitation and the latest version of the company's integrated braking system. A highlight is the optional Driving Assistant Professional which includes Steering & Lane Control Assist and Distance Control with Stop & Go function. In the US, Canada and Germany, Highway Assistant is available, which relieves the driver of the need to check the steering on motorways with separate lanes. At driving speeds of up to 130 km/h it is possible to let your hands off the wheel and place them somewhere comfortable, as long as you keep a close eye on the traffic. The system also includes the unique Active Lane Change Assistant with eye movement activation.
