The year is coming to an end, but Peugeot has not yet said its last word. Continuing its push on all levels, it is launching the next generation of its 2008 C-SUV, which will be available with electric drive in addition to the usual options! The new French model adopts the latest generation PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® 3D, as well as equipment designed with the best PEUGEOT has to offer in terms of expertise. The new model offers the freedom of choice (Power of Choice) through 3 types of engines: electric, petrol and diesel, all ensuring impressive yet economical performance.
Electric, petrol, or diesel!
Based on the latest generation CMP (Common Modular Platform) platform, the new PEUGEOT 2008 SUV is a vehicle that offers multiple options when it comes to mobility. It offers the freedom to choose the type of engine according to the needs of each user : 100% electric, petrol or diesel, while for driving "a la carte", the car, depending on the version, has a driving mode selector : "Eco", "Normal" and "Sport".For out-of-town getaways, there is also the optional Advanced Grip Control, which is combined with Hill Assist descent control and helps the driver to better control the car when descending steep gradients.Economy has been the cornerstone in the development of this model, as all engines have controlled air intake, wheels that direct the air flow, thus improving the aerodynamic characteristics of the car. The range is available in 4 versions : Active, Allure, GT Line and GT, all available with 100% electric, petrol or diesel engine. The top GT Line and GT versions are distinguished by their special styling features.
The engine, with its 100 kW (136 hp) and 260 Nm of instantly available torque, ensures a unique driving experience in every situation. The high battery capacity of 50 kWh gives the car a range of 310 km according to the new WLTP standard. This battery is covered by an 8-year warranty or 160,000 km for the 70% of its charging capacity. All information on energy flow and consumption is displayed on the central display and on the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® 3D screen in a way that is immediately understandable to the driver. The system's operation also includes two energy recovery options during braking, which are directly accessible from the gear stick :- Drive option ("D"), recovery is conventional, for driving similar to a petrol or diesel car; Brake option ("B"), energy recovery is also achieved during deceleration, as soon as the driver releases the accelerator.
The batteries are ideally positioned on the floor, ensuring that the electric version will not affect the performance of the new PEUGEOT 2008 SUV in any way.In addition, this arrangement ensures that the dimensions of the passenger compartment and boot remain exactly the same as the corresponding internal combustion engine versions. A fundamental dimension that has always characterised PEUGEOT models is also their dynamic behaviour. In the new PEUGEOT e-2008 SUV, particular attention has been paid to this characteristic as its road behaviour is no different from that of petrol or diesel models. The transmission axles have been suitably modified and the weight distribution is ideal. Charging time depends on the available grid power :- 15 hours 30' for full charging via a Green Up™ type supply,- 7 hours 20' for full charging via WallBox (single phase 7.4 kW),- 30' for charging on the 80% battery via 100kW public charging points.
The thermal capacity of the battery allows the use of this type of chargers. Via the car's navigation screen, or via the MyPeugeot® app on your smartphone, it is also possible to program a specific charging time. This function allows you to remotely start or stop the charging process. To ensure ideal conditions in the cabin of the car, the following equipment has also been developed:- a special 5kW heating resistor supplied by the traction battery, which ensures the heating of the passenger compartment,- a heat pump and automatic cabin temperature regulation, which ensures conditions similar to those of a car with an internal combustion engine. The system is adapted for optimised energy consumption,- heated seats (depending on the version),- programming of the cabin temperature via the touchscreen or remotely via the MyPeugeot® smartphone app, which heats or cools the cabin before each journey.
The new PEUGEOT e-2008 SUV does not generally differ in appearance from the other versions, but has several design details that emphasise its electric character:- Iridescent lion badge on the grille, with a shade that changes from green to ebony depending on the angle of view,- Special monogram "e" on the front fenders and trunk,- Stylish front grille in body colour,- Exclusive Alcantara© "Greval Grey" seat trim on the e-2008GT version,- And finally, the interior experience is completed by the special configuration for the electric version of the 3D digital instrument panel and touchscreen.
The internal combustion engines meet the latest Euro 6 standards. Fully compliant with the latest Euro 6 emission standards, the internal combustion engines incorporate the latest technological developments from PEUGEOT and all feature Stop & Start, a micro-particle filter and ultra-low CO2 emissions. For even greater driving convenience and comfort, some of the engines are also combined with the new 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission. The petrol engines are based on the 3-cylinder PureTech 1.2 litre engines:- 1.2 PureTech 100 S&S with 6-speed manual gearbox (CO2 : 105 g/km); 1.2 PureTech 130 S&S with 6-speed manual gearbox (CO2 : 103 g/km) or 8-speed EAT8 automatic gearbox (CO2 : 109 g/km); - 1.2 PureTech 155 S&S with 8-speed EAT8 automatic gearbox, only in GT version (CO2 : 113 g/km).As for the Diesel versions, there is the 1.5 litre BlueHDi 4-cylinder engine:- 1.5 BlueHDi 100 S&S with 6-speed manual gearbox (CO2 : 96 g/km),- 1.5 BlueHDi 130 S&S with 8-speed EAT8 automatic gearbox (CO2 : 100 g/km) .
The design
The world is changing. New challenges demand new answers across the automotive industry. With 208 years of history, PEUGEOT is faithfully following its commitment, moving steadily towards the era of energy transition. The new PEUGEOT 2008 SUV confirms the brand's vision for the future of motoring and proves that technology and pleasure are not two incompatible concepts and that a car can charm! The new 2008 comes from the heart of the compact SUV category, contributing to the doctrine that is the current success of PEUGEOT models : dominance through design and clear differentiation through innovation and technology.
Dynamic and distinctive in appearance, the new 2008 PEUGEOT SUV fulfils the ambition to create a new and striking page in the history of PEUGEOT SUVs and is in perfect design harmony with the brand's current models, while displaying its own distinct personality. Perfectly balanced lines and ideal proportions create the image of an SUV with a sharply sloping windscreen that makes the bonnet look more horizontal and contributes to the creation of an image of intense dynamism. The car is even distinguished by the large wheels and the accentuated wing guards. The front end stands out thanks to the large grille, the sculpted bonnet and the LED daytime running lights, which resemble lion's teeth.Equally impressive are the profile lines that immediately catch the eye thanks to the triangular shaping of the surfaces. The result is a lively and dynamic style that represents a real technological achievement in terms of the consistency of the individual parts. These lines end at the rear door, highlighting an undeniable coherence and an overall homogeneity.
The overall image reflects robustness, which can be seen even from the large wheels (690 mm) and the pronounced 'inflated' fenders. The 18" wheels have special inserts that bring together two advantages : Easier personalisation and significant weight reduction : 4 kg from the wheels alone. A significant quality upgrade is also evident. Elegance in the exterior appearance thanks to the Black Diamond roof and the silk-screen printing on the rear pillar in the GT Line and GT versions.Muscular, with sharply broad shoulders, the rear end includes the headlamps with the now familiar black glossy 'fascia' between them from the new 208, and the dual-pipe exhaust, in the 1.2 PureTech 130hp & 155hp GT Line and GT versions. The rear end's lighting identity with the 3 LED 'claws' on the headlamps. A distinctive feature that can be seen day and night and is now found on the rear of all versions and on the headlamps of the brand's high-end versions. The rear lights use LED technology on all trim levels.
The model can also be offered in striking and distinctive exterior colours that contribute even more to its style :- Elixir Red, with a coloured coating that adds depth to the body colour,- Vertigo Blue, with three coatings that add extra shine,- Fusion Orange, a new metallic colour exclusive to the new PEUGEOT2008 SUV. Inside, the colours and quality materials that combine in the best possible way to achieve the perfect fit stand out.- The doors feature trim in Orange Intense in the Active version or BlueUrbanoid in the Allure version,-
The interior
The Allure version exudes technology and freshness, thanks to the modern light blue seat upholstery,- The dynamism of the GT Line versions is highlighted by the dark-coloured headliners and the decorative stitching on the dashboard in Green Adamite,- The luxury and sophisticated style of the GT versions is ensured by the Alcantara® trim with prominent Green Adamite stitching. The GT Line & GT interior environment is made impressive by the 8-colour RGB ambient lighting on the dashboard and front doors
The new 2008 is characterised by its unique flexibility and comfort. The spaciousness of the rear seats (a record for the new CMP platform) gives the new PEUGEOT 2008 SUV the status of an extremely versatile SUV. The overall length of 4.30 m and wheelbase of 2.60 m also ensure a spacious luggage compartment with a total capacity of 434 litres (VDA210) regardless of engine, even in the 100% electric version! The ease of interior configuration is ensured by the luggage compartment floor, which can be adjusted in two positions to create a completely flat loading area once the rear seats are folded. The abundance of new storage space inside enables the passenger to easily carry all their personal belongings. In addition to the door pockets and the passenger glove box, there is space under the centre armrest and in front of the gear lever. In addition, there is another discreet space at the base of the centre console where you can place and inductively charge your smartphone.
Thanks to the large opening roof, passengers enjoy an extremely bright interior and an additional sense of spaciousness.Even more technologically advanced: The new PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® 3DThe PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® retains the same key features and offers a unique level of ergonomics that challenges the senses: The technology that was particularly loved by 5 million PEUGEOT car customers around the world is now presented in the new PEUGEOT 2008 SUV in a completely new form. All information is displayed directly in front of the driver's field of vision. A 10'' 3D digital instrument panel, standard equipment from the Allure version onwards, presents all readings in holographic format. Information is displayed closer or further away from the driver's eyes, depending on its importance and urgency, thus reducing the reaction time by about half a second. The new PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® 3D introduced in the new PEUGEOT 208 is a true innovation, a world first in its class. It improves driving in every way: Efficiency, ease of reading information and safety are always a top priority.
Depending on the version, the touchscreen can be up to 10 inches diagonally and is controlled by touchswitches behind the aviation-style switches. Precision in assembly and reliability are also evident, as, in addition to appearance, particular attention has been paid to the tactile feel, as evidenced by the use of soft trim on the dashboard and refined materials in various parts of the interior, such as Alcantara® or Nappa® leather. The door panels and dashboard trim have a 'carbon fibre' appearance, while the EAT8 transmission control is exclusively electric ('shift and park by wire'), ensuring almost 'intuitive' operation. Shifts are also made via 'paddles' on the steering wheel, so the driver is always in control.
Unique to the segment is the level of equipment and the number of driver assistance systems derived from higher-end models and incorporating PEUGEOT's advanced expertise.
