Hyundai announced its return to the legendary race Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC), also known as "The Race to the Clouds" on 23 June 2024. This year's race to the top of America's Mountain will mark another milestone in Hyundai's long history with the Colorado event, an effort that began in 1992.

Hyundai will participate in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2024 with the presence of four cars and outstanding drivers:

  • Paul Dallenbach

Eleven-time winner of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

  • Robin Shute

Four-time winner and King of the Mountain title holder at Pikes Peak

  • Daniel "Dani" Sordo Castillo

Spanish Hyundai Motorsport driver in the World Rally Championship (WRC)

  • The fourth driver will be announced later.

"The driver is one of the most important elements in our success at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb," said Till Wartenberg, Vice President of Hyundai and Head of N Brand and Motorsport. "We have selected top drivers such as Robin Shute and Paul Dallenbach who have topped the event overall and the category 15 times. Both of these drivers have incredible empathy and know the climb very well. The addition of Hyundai Motorsport WRC driver, Dani Sordo, is very exciting and will help us to attract the attention of the world's climbing public."

"The Pikes Peak race is one of the most unique and historic challenges that still remains in motorsports today," said Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor America. "It has stood the test of time because the mountain never retreats. The weather makes it extremely difficult to run clean and to conquer the mountain everything has to go perfectly. It takes tremendous preparation and a little bit of luck to break and set records. Participating in Pikes Peak will prove the power that these four vehicles have."

"The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb represents a unique and exciting new challenge for our team because Hyundai already has a rich history of participating in the event for 30 years," said Bryan Herta, President and CEO of Bryan Herta Autosport. "We rely on the many experts in the event, as well as Hyundai's engineering and experience. We want to show what Hyundai vehicles can do in one of the toughest challenges in motorsports."

Hyundai also has technicians and crew members who have extensive experience on Pikes Peak. These experts understand the course, the weather and the need to be flexible when moving up and down the mountain during training.
