The new R 12 nineT is now being presented for the "100 Years of BMW Motorrad" and is the successor to the R nineT, which was launched exactly ten years ago on the occasion of BMW Motorrad's 90th anniversary.

The new BMW R 12 nineT continues uninterrupted the 100 years of charm and tradition of the BMW Motorcycle

Like the 2013 BMW R nineT, the new BMW R 12 nineT is an authentic, powerful, classic roadster that offers a wealth of options for almost unlimited customisation and personalisation.

Dr. Markus Schramm, Head of BMW Motorrad states: "The R nineT and the concept of customising have established the new Heritage experience for BMW Motorrad's 90th birthday and have become an indispensable cornerstone of our model range. The new R 12 nineT consistently continues the successful heritage surrounding BMW's legendary boxer engines with an even more classic, unadorned design language, even greater freedom for customising and, finally, new and innovative technologies."

Authentic engine boxer 1200 with redesigned filter box and exhaust system offering classic driving pleasure

100 years ago, the first BMW motorcycle - the R 32 - was already based on the flat-twin engine. The boxer's unmistakable design, powerful acceleration, unique power delivery, distinctive sound and smooth operation quickly made it a legendary synonym for BMW motorcycles. With its air-cooled boxer engine, the new R 12 nineT continues this great tradition. The number 12 in the model name refers to the engine's capacity, as is the case with many models in BMW Motorrad's history - and similarly with today's R 18.

Even more classic, authentic design, attention to detail and more choice customizing

Even more than its predecessor, the new R 12 nineT combines the rugged character of the boxer engine and the iconic style of motorcycles of yesteryear with innovative technologies and a modular philosophy that offers the rider a maximum number of personalisation options. Avoiding anything superfluous and remaining committed to the core values of motorcycles, it offers a high emotional appeal. Clean, classic looks and attention to detail were at the top of the agenda in the motorcycle's design phase.

Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design at BMW Motorrad comments, "The design language is defined by the clean tank/seat/tail line, in the style of the traditional /5 or the legendary R 90 S of the 1970s. At first glance, it becomes apparent that the tank itself is a classic BMW boxer feature, with a characteristic curvature at the lower end and classic knee contact. The new R 12 NineT also features side covers in the frame triangle area with an authentic roadster look - another reference to BMW motorcycles of the 1970s."

The attention to detail is also evident in the redesigned front fender, the main LED headlight with its black surround light and the two round instruments that evoke the traditional styling of other eras. As usual, attractive customising options are offered from BMW Motorrad's collection of genuine accessories. With customizing in mind, the new R 12 nineT also features an LED tail light unit integrated into the saddle, which now makes it easy to implement a "short tail".
