Ford : Contributing to worker safety with innovative, illuminated van panels

Either by repairing our cars and repairing
potholes in the pavement, or maintaining gas and water infrastructure,
many workers are forced to carry out their duties in environments of high
risk in order not to disrupt the life of the community. Every year, some
of them are injured or lose their lives while working in the
European roads.

Reflective panels can be very useful, especially
the long and dark nights of winter. But their illumination depends
than the headlights of other vehicles, which means that they may be less
effectively, if they are after a turn. Now, Ford has come up with an excellent idea.

The first of its kind high visibility electronic panels
(Electronic High Visibility Panels) do not rely on other light sources to be visible, as the red
strips are illuminated by electricity passing through a thin layer of phosphate
gas - a technology already used in aircraft cockpits and in medical and military equipment displays.

Ford tested the panels in collaboration with the Northumbrian Water Group, in the UK, which enabled engineers to observe
their effectiveness in real-life conditions and assess the benefits
of their lighting - even when other drivers neglect to turn on their headlights
their.

Available now for Ford Transit and Transit Custom models in the UK, Electronic High Visibility Panels are easily activated by a switch located at the rear of the vehicle.
from the driver's seat. Northumbrian Water Group is the first corporate customer to supply the
this system.2 Ford is currently considering making Electronic High Visibility Panels available in other European countries.

Transit and Transit Custom sales last year totalled 203,074 units, making a significant contribution to the
of Ford
No.1 brand in the European market in the commercial vehicle segment
for the sixth consecutive year.
