Fiat 500 turns 60 and celebrates in Geneva

At the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show, Fiat is unveiling its two identities, functional and emotional, expressed through a wide and complete range of offerings.

In 2017 Fiat celebrates the 60th birthday of the iconic 500 and the star of the Geneva Motor Show is the limited exclusive anniversary edition 500 with a distinctive look and unique features. The 60th anniversary 500 is accompanied by the 500S, the most dynamic version of the Fiat emblem. The Swiss Show also sees the premiere of new S-Design trim levels designed for customers with a sportier profile. This new proposal makes its first appearance on the Tipo 5-door and 500X models. The entire Tipo family could not be absent from the Show. Fiat has another surprise in store, this time for adventure lovers, presenting the Fiat Fullback Cross pick-up. The spotlight at the show also falls on an exciting model that gives motoring enthusiasts the true roadster experience with Italian style. It is the 124 Spider and the special "Europa" version, produced in limited numbers. The Cross and Natural Power versions of the best-selling Panda are also on the stand, while the 500L is represented by the Trekking version in two-tone paint that emphasises the crossover side of the model.

Special edition Fiat 500 for the 60th anniversary

The 4th of July 1957 is an important date in the history of Fiat. It is the day the first 500 rolled off the production line at the factory in Turin, Italy. Soon this "little big car" was firmly established in the world's consciousness as the emblem of mass motoring. To celebrate the model's 60th birthday, Fiat chose the Geneva Motor Show to present the 500 anniversary edition, which will be produced in just 560 units. Orders will open on 9 March and the first cars will arrive in EMEA markets on 4 July.

The 500 anniversary model is only available in an open (convertible) version and shares several features with its ancestor in a modern expression, such as the vinyl dashboard, chrome bonnet finish and vintage logo on the front. The show car is painted in a new Dolce Vita two-tone paint scheme: triple-coat white and ivory pastel for the hood and pillars, while the soft top is grey. The style of the special edition is enhanced by many other aesthetic details, such as the chrome mirror caps, special lightweight 16-inch alloy wheels and a special 560 logo. In addition, the anniversary 500 offers the very best in cabin technology and comfort through its standard equipment which includes a leather gear lever, steering wheel with integrated controls, UconnectTM Radio Live 7" touchscreen system with Bluetooth function, navigation system and USB and AUX IN ports, 7" TFT screen, automatic climate control, fog lamps and rear parking sensors. Available engines are two petrol engines, 1.2 69 HP and 0.9 TwinAir 85 HP, mated to a Dualogic automatic transmission and steering wheel paddles.

S-Design

The S-Design is Fiat's answer to those looking for style and substance in a car, along with a modern, dynamic and distinctive character. This particular version combines sporty elements with style and the result is highly appealing at first glance. It is aimed at an audience of young men, fitting seamlessly into both Fiat's functional and emotional worlds. It will premiere in Geneva through the 500X S-Design and Tipo 5-door S-Design models.

Fiat 500X S-Design

Fiat presents the new 500X S-Design special edition that introduces a new concept for city driving by combining a sporty feel with attention to detail. This new concept is implemented in the two new versions of the model: the City Look and the Off-Road. The show car is matt Alpi green and stands out for its exclusive sporty steel details on the side trim, door handles, front bumper, boot door handle and exterior mirror caps. Other features of the model include 18-inch wheels in a distinctive two-tone finish, while the sporty profile is enhanced by Xenon headlamps. Inside, the special S-Design seats with sports fabric and a colour logo stand out. The engine powering the model is the 140bhp 1.4 MultiAir mated to the DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission. Orders for this version will open in the coming June.

Fiat Tipo 5Doors S-Design

Visitors to the show will be able to admire the new Tipo 5-door S-Design in a revealing grey Metropoli colour with a distinctive black front grille. The Bi-Xenon front lights that make their first appearance in the Tipo family give the model a special dynamism. Other black-coloured details can be found on the sports air intakes and mirror caps, as well as on the dashboard. The entire interior is completely redesigned with leather and fabric seats, specially selected to highlight the dynamic, sporty profile of the model. Another standout feature are the new 18-inch alloy wheels with diamond finish, while under the bonnet of the show car is the 1.4 T-jet engine of 120 hp, with a maximum power output of 5000 rpm and a maximum torque of 215 Nm at 2500 rpm. The S-Design version is also available in other colours such as black Cinema, red Amore, white Gelato and grey Colosseo and other engines such as the 1.6 MTJ 120HP diesel with manual or automatic DCT transmission, the 1.6 E-Torq 110HP petrol with automatic transmission and the 1.4 T-jet 120HP LPG petrol.

Fiat Fullback Cross

The Fiat Fullback is the purpose-built pick-up for drivers who want a functional and practical vehicle to enjoy their leisure time and holidays. Specifically, the Cross version of the model is making its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in Colosseum Grey. The Fullback Cross is available in the Double Cab version with its special styling features summarised in the grille with matt black elements, the side skirt in silver satin, the black side details such as the mirrors, handles, wheel arches, and we cannot fail to mention the 17" wheels and the larger side steps with a new design. The Fullback Cross's distinctive appearance is completed by the new cargo area in black, which underlines the model's specificity as ideal for work and pleasure. It is available with the 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine of 180 bhp and 430 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission (the latter equips the showroom version).

Standard equipment is complete, including ABS with EBD, TSA (for greater towing stability), LDW (Lane Departure Warning), seven airbags, Cruise Control, Bi-Xenon headlights, front fog lights, LED daytime running lights (DRL). The sense of comfort in the cabin is enhanced by the leather upholstery on the seats, steering wheel and gear lever, as well as automatic dual-zone climate control, full traction selector, a DAB CD/MP3 radio with 7" touchscreen, Bluetooth function and USB port.

Fiat 124 Spider Europe

The new Fiat 124 Spider is an exciting two-seater, Fiat's only two-seater capable of conquering the new generation. At the Geneva Motor Show, visitors will be able to admire the new limited special edition, paying tribute to the original Pininfarina version, which was unveiled at the same event 36 years ago. The exhibition model is red Passione (the ultimate colour of the Italian sports two-seater) and wears the same 17" 4-spoke alloy wheels as the original version. An additional addition is the silver mirror caps and black leather seats. The equipment is rich: 4 airbags, full-led front headlights with Adaptive Front Light system, 7" radio, MP3 with USB port, advanced 9-speaker Bose audio system, leather steering wheel, as well as cruise control, keyless entry, rear camera and navigation system with 3D maps. Finally, the engine that equips the Fiat 124 Spider Europe is the turbocharged 1.4-litre 140bhp MultiAir technology four-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

natural power

In a special area dedicated to eco-mobility, Fiat is hosting a Panda Natural Power. The Panda celebrates a milestone in its history, the production of the 300,000th Panda powered by natural gas. This car, which came off the production line a few days ago, is on show in the Lounge version and in white. The engine it wears is the 80 hp Twinair Turbo Natural Power dual-fuel twin cylinder. It consumes 4.5 litres of petrol or 3.1 kg of gas every 100 km of combined cycle. CO2 emissions are significantly reduced: 106 g/km when using petrol and 85 g/km when using natural gas.

FCA has been the European leader in the sale of dual-fuel (petrol/gasoline) vehicles for the last 20 years, having sold more than 700,000 vehicles from its six Fiat models (Panda, Punto, Qubo, Doblò, 500L and 500L Living) and four Fiat Professional models (Fiorino, Doblò Cargo, Ducato and Ducato Panorama).

The Tipo family

The Tipo family is able to meet the needs of families, couples and young drivers thanks to its three different body styles, its practical space and its clear orientation towards the "value for money" philosophy.

At the Geneva Motor Show, in addition to the new Tipo 5Tyro S-Design, there is also a 4-door sedan in metallic red Amore, equipped with the 1.6 E-Torq 110 HP engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The range is completed with a Station Wagon version in Mediterraneo blue with a 1.6 Multijet 120 HP engine mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Both models include the rich equipment of the "Lounge" version: 17-inch alloy wheels with diamond finish, chrome trim, as well as a leather steering wheel and gear lever for a more refined look. All Tipo cars come standard with six airbags, ESC and Hill Holder, TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system), completed in the optional equipment by a Safety Pack with adaptive Cruise Control, automatic emergency braking system and Speed Limiter.

The Tipo 5Door and Sedan models are also available in the Business version and offer additional technology, comfort and appearance features compared to the standard version.

Fiat 500S

The Fiat 500S is the new sporty version of the Fiat flagship, characterised by its bold looks and full standard equipment, aimed at young, mainly male, drivers looking for a car with a strong sporty personality.

The model on display at the show comes in Italia Blue and is equipped with the 0.9 TwinAir 105 HP twin-cylinder petrol engine that offers low fuel consumption and low emissions, as well as excellent performance. Inside the 500S, the "Satin Graphite" details, the sporty steering wheel, the black paint on the seats and roof of the cabin stand out, which blends perfectly with certain details on the seats and door panels in light blue, white and yellow.

Fiat 500L

The Fiat 500L completes the presence of the 500 family, offering a combination of style and functionality, in line with the "Made in Fiat" design and the 500's iconic personality. The Trekking version of the show car features a two-tone design and combines chrome details with a satin finish. Painted red brake calipers complete the look.

The show model features a BeatsAudioTM audio system, while its dynamic character is further enhanced by the excellent 1.4 T-Jet 120 HP engine. The crossover side of the 500L Trekking is emphasised by the presence of Traction+ technology and M+S tyres as standard, for improved grip on slippery roads.

Fiat Panda

The Geneva Motor Show would not be complete without the Panda, the best-seller in its class in 2016. In a special place is the Fiat Panda Cross, which combines the off-road features of larger class models in a car measuring just 370 cm. It is a one-of-a-kind vehicle, combining all the off-road features with the performance and philosophy of an SUV, along with the exterior dimensions, efficiency and flexibility of a city car.

The car on display at the show is Gelato white on the exterior, while the cabin features grey fabric and brown eco-leather seats and a brown dashboard. It is available with a 0.9 TwinAir 90 HP two-cylinder engine and an electronic differential.

The Fiat stand

A series of elegant and original accessories developed in collaboration with Mopar is presented in a special area of the exhibition. Among them stands out the 500 series, designed to satisfy those who love style and uniqueness for their leisure time. In addition, the specially designed space for the 500 anniversary edition looks particularly refined thanks to the "Fiat 500 Gabsule Collection".
