How willing would you be to buy a super rare, super fast, super impressive BMW M1? Okay, inclined you might be, but the question is how... well, how... broke are you to get one of these, since Mint Classics in Munster is selling them for 850,000 euros (and counting).
So why are these center-engine BMWs, the first to carry the now legendary "M" badge, so expensive, even by the standards of an M1? The "secret" lies both inside and outside the first one that went on sale. Watch out: On the dial, this silver M1 has just 17,500 kilometers! Like new! Besides, in this silver colour (Polaris Silver it's called), only three M1s were painted in this small planet: an original one (in the BMW museum), one bought by a gentleman called... Bernie Ecclestone (you know him somewhere, right?) and the one you see in the photos. Well, you can't say, it's a little unique.
The other good thing is that they have not become... kangaroos. Since modifications are tantamount to a felony in classics, this M1 wears what momma BMW gave it. And, behind the lucky owner's head, a 3.5-liter straight-six that puts out "just" 269 horsepower. Enough, however, to launch it to the first 100 mph in just 5.5 seconds. And it has pop up lights (we have a bit of a fixation with those, as you can tell).
If silver is not enough for you now and you want something more extreme, there is. The pictured racing M1 that has gone under the hammer, with no price announced.
By the way, which one would you choose?
