Debut of the BMW 5 Series Touring in Geneva

At the 2017 International Motor Show, BMW will present the most interesting proposals from its current range as well as the latest developments in the field of sustainable mobility with fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The next generation of the BMW 5 Series Touring will make its world debut at this year's 87th edition of the popular show, which takes place at the Palexpo convention centre. The new BMW 4 Series is also preparing to make its first public appearance in Geneva, completely updated with design, chassis, interior and equipment improvements. Another exclusive version of the revolutionary plug-in hybrid sports car BMW i8 will also make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show (9 - 19 March 2017) in the form of the BMW i8 Protonic Frozen Black Edition.

World premiere : new BMW 5 Series Touring.

The new version of the 5 Series Touring, which is enjoying particular success in the European car markets, promotes the combination of driving pleasure, high aesthetics, innovation and intelligent functionality that defines the model's identity. With distinctive proportions and unique geometry, the body design betrays sporty performance and agility. Compared to the outgoing model, the new BMW 5 Series Touring has slightly larger exterior dimensions and offers significantly increased passenger and luggage space. The acoustic experience and comfort levels for rear passengers have been optimised.

Even with all seats occupied, the luggage compartment of the new BMW 5 Series Touring has a capacity of 570 litres - ten litres more than its predecessor. The luggage compartment can be expanded to 1,700 L (an additional 30 L) if required. The permissible payload is significantly higher than in the outgoing model. Variability is improved by several practical details. 1L bottles fit in the door pockets, while cup holders in the center console can accommodate even larger ones. The 40:20:40/40 split/folding rear seat backrest is lowered by pushing a button in the luggage compartment. Adjustment of the backrest tilt angle is available as an option. The luggage compartment cover and separating net are stored in separate compartments in slots under the luggage compartment floor, while an independently opening rear windscreen and automatic tailgate operation are also part of the standard equipment. Comfort Access (optional) includes hands-free opening and closing of the tailgate.

When the new BMW 5 Series Touring goes on sale in June 2017, there will be four latest-generation BMW Group engines. Two of them will be paired with the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system from the outset. Further versions will follow along the way, combined with conventional rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Performance, optimised aerodynamics and a 100 kg (on average) weight reduction compared to outgoing models mean that fuel consumption and emissions have been reduced by up to 11%, depending on the engine version.

The intelligent lightweight structure harmonises with the increased torsional stiffness of the body and the advanced chassis. The new BMW 5 Series Touring thus offers a more harmonious balance between agility and driving comfort than ever before. Standard equipment includes air suspension with automatic rear height adjustment, while Dynamic Damper Control, Adaptive Drive with active body roll control, Integral Active Steering - now available in combination with xDrive - and M Sport suspension are optional.

The display and control philosophy now includes a touchscreen and BMW gesture recognition system, while new support systems such as Steering & lane control assistant accelerate developments on the road to automated driving. Remote Control Parking is also available for the new BMW 5 Series Touring, while another important service in the field of intelligent connectivity helps find on-street parking spaces - On-Street Parking Information.

Sportier than ever: new BMW 4 Series

With a more modern design and a new chassis philosophy, the new BMW 4 Series continues its upward trend. Redesigned air vents and rear apron, and new standard LED headlights and LED taillights underscore the exclusive, sporty look of the new BMW 4 Series Coupe Convertible and Gran Coupe models. New styling elements, chrome accents and a shiny black finish on the centre console add extra notes of luxury to the interior.

In combination with the optional Navigation Professional system, the menus for the iDrive operating system are in the form of icons on the Control Display. The control panels are arranged according to the user's wishes and the relevant menu content is continuously updated. The Multifunctional Instrument Display is available as an option for the BMW 4 Series.

The stiffer suspension offers a sportier ride in the new BMW 4 Series Coupe and Gran Coupe without compromising comfort. High-performance tyres are offered as an option for the higher versions.

Redesigned full-LED tail lights and new luxury elements in the interior enhance the appearance of the BMW M4 Coupe and BMW M4 Convertible. Both of these high-performance sports cars are available with the new version of the Professional Navigation System and the latest BMW ConnectedDrive Services.
