The signs in Athens "shone" again

A total of 644 signs have been restored in 3 municipalities of Attica by 160 volunteers in the framework of Clean Up-Safety Days

The 3rd action of the Clean Up-Safety Days initiative held on November 3rd in the Municipality of Daphne - Ymittos was completed with great success, as more than 192 road signs were restored by LeasePlan Hellas and the "Panos Mylonas" Road Safety Institute, with the undivided contribution of the Municipality and the Attica Traffic Police Department.

Starting from Kolokotronis Square in Daphne Metro and with the motto "Clean Signs - Safer Roads", 40 employees of LeasePlan Hellas and members of the "Panos Mylonas" Road Safety Institute joined forces again to clean as many vandalized road signs as possible on the main roads of the area and succeeded once again!

The Clean Up-Safety Days campaign was launched by the I.O.A.S "Panos Mylonas" and LeasePlan Hellas in April 2016, starting in Kallithea, where 266 signs became "new" and continued in June in Elefsina, where despite the extreme heat, 186 signs became visible again.

Today, with the completion of the 3rd Clean Up-Safety Day, more than 640 signs have been restored in three municipalities of Attica, while a total of 160 volunteers of LeasePlan and I.O.A.S "Panos Mylonas" have actively contributed to the implementation and completion of these three actions that ensure safer driving, prevention of road accidents and improvement of the daily life of drivers and pedestrians.

Christos Papagiannopoulos, Commercial Director of LeasePlan Hellas, said: "It is a great pleasure for us that the 3rd Clean Up-Safety Day action was successfully completed thanks to our excellent cooperation with the Road Safety Institute 'Panos Mylonas' and the uninterrupted volunteerism of the people of LeasePlan Hellas. So far we have achieved very significant results in three municipalities of Attica, cleaning 644 vandalized road signs, and we are proud to be an active supporter of an initiative that actively supports responsible and safe driving in our cities."

"We complete the first cycle of the "Clean Signs - Safer Roads" campaign with our excursion to the Municipality of Daphne-Ymitou. We are touched and empowered by the response of the people and the impact of this effort that is growing and rallying active citizens against the deterioration of the quality of life. We are committed to continue responding to the challenge to improve safety and culture in our travel", commented the President of the IOA. "Panos Mylonas", Vasiliki Danelli-Mylonas.

Mr. Michalis Stavrianoudakis, Mayor of Daphne-Ymittos commented "Unfortunately, the signs in recent years are a means of venting society and as a result many lives are at risk, even on short routes. Municipalities do not have the ability to constantly clean the signs from spray and stickers. This action is a reason for citizens to realize that the destruction of signs is at the expense of all our lives. I would like to believe that in addition to the effort made by the Institute and the volunteers, we can all continue to protect the signs. We all need to understand that culture and safety means clean signs."
