VW : Customer feedback was systematically taken into account and implemented, focusing on a more modern exterior design and upgrading the quality of the materials in the saloon

ID.3

Fresh design, top-quality materials and the latest generation of assistance systems form the trifecta of the new ID.3.Two and a half years after the launch of the first generation, Volkswagen's all-electric bestseller returns to the market with a comprehensive upgrade. In addition to the addition of the latest software, the compact electric car comes with an even more modern body and refined interior design. The range of colours has grown with new colours available, including 'Dark Olivine Green'. High-quality, sustainable and animal-free materials reflect Volkswagen's strategy for its all-electric ID model family.

Η Imelda Labbé, Member of the Volkswagen Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales said: "With the second generation of the ID.3, we are continuing the successful development of the ID model range. The design has matured and the interior materials have been significantly upgraded. The new ID.3 demonstrates our clear commitment to quality, design and functionality and we have taken our customers' wishes very seriously. The new ID.3 is one of ten electric models that VW will launch by 2026."

Ο Kai Grünitz, Member of the Board of Directors of the company, responsible for Development stated: "With the new ID.3 we are bringing premium technologies to the compact car segment. This is in line with Volkswagen's goal of offering innovative technologies successively across the entire model range. This is also reflected in the latest-generation comfort and assistance systems available in the new ID.3. Using Swarm data in the Travel Assist system, we are taking the next step on the road to fully automated driving."

Exterior: Even more modern design and improved aerodynamics. The body of Volkswagen's all-electric model catches the eye with a fresh and much more dynamic look. New optimized air cooling vents and large painted surfaces make the front end look more confident and much more pleasing from every angle. One reason for this is the newly designed bumper. The bonnet now appears longer because the black strip under the windscreen has been removed and the recesses in the side sections now extend to the front. Volkswagen has optimized aerodynamics thanks to improved airflow around the front wheels, known as the "air curtain". At the rear, two-part headlamps shine on the lip of the tailgate.

Superior quality interior, with sustainable materials of non-animal origin. The interior of the new ID.3 combines modern design and sustainable materials. Precise stitching in contrasting colours further enhances the sense of quality. Volkswagen uses Artvelours Eco microfiber material for the door trim and seat covers, a fabric containing 71% recycled products. This is a secondary raw material obtained by recycling plastic that has previously been discarded as waste at least once. Artvelours Eco has the same characteristics in terms of look, feel and durability as conventional virgin materials. The interior equipment is also completely free of materials of animal origin.

An equally important element is that many suggestions from customers were collected and implemented as improvements to the materials and to enhance the basic equipment package. Soft foam-filled surfaces on the dashboard create a higher quality feel to the touch. The new trim on the door interiors is also softer and is applied to larger surfaces.

Standard smart digital technology. Charging the new ID.3 is easier and even more convenient thanks to standard features such as Plug & Charge (where the vehicle authenticates itself and starts the charging process immediately when the charging cable is connected to a charging station) and the intelligent "Electric Vechicle Route Planner" function. On longer journeys, the Electric Vehicle Route Planner calculates charging stops so that the car reaches its destination as quickly as possible, using real-time traffic information and forecasts which it combines and evaluates in conjunction with the battery charge level. The stops for charging are dynamically evaluated based on the capacity of each charging station. This means that the trip planning function can, for example, suggest two short charging stops with high capacity instead of only one long charging stop with low capacity. In addition, the system detects charging stations that are occupied and thus does not recommend them at the outset. Points of interest can be transferred to the car using the free We Connect ID app.

Modern and intuitive design. The new ID.3 comes with the latest generation of Volkswagen software. This improves the performance of the operating system and is able to receive updates "over-the-air". The compact 13.4 cm (5.3 inch) diagonal instrument panel display is located on the multifunction steering wheel. The centre of the console houses the now standard 12-inch (30.5 cm) touchscreen for the navigation system, phone functions, multimedia system, assistance systems and vehicle settings. The design of the menu structure has taken into account many customer wishes and comments. Among other things, the layout has been made clearer and the charging menu is now located on the first level of the touchscreen.

The optional augmented reality head-up display (AR head-up display) shows information such as the vehicle's speed and dynamic navigation instructions via GPS on the windscreen. For the driver, this information appears to be 10 metres in front of the vehicle and is displayed clearly and in the correct perspective.

Latest generation assistance systems. The optional Travel Assist with Swarm data3 is now also available in the ID.3. Combined with adaptive cruise control (ACC) for longitudinal control from 0 km/h to top speed and Lane Assist for lateral control, this driver assistance system can use two proven systems that are fully combined in the new ID.3If Swarm data is available, Travel Assist needs to have at least one defined lane marking to be able to keep the vehicle in its lane, even when driving on country roads.

Volkswagen and the strategy "Way to ZERO". Volkswagen has reached another milestone on the road to becoming a software-based provider of zero-emission mobility services. Since the launch of the ID. model family, more than 600,000 ID. models based on the Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform have already been delivered to customers around the world so far. The Volkswagen product range now includes six ID. models. In addition to production at the plants in Zwickau and Dresden, the new ID.3 will also be manufactured at the parent plant in Wolfsburg from autumn 2023.
