From 22.095 euros for the new Ford Kuga

New Ford Kuga With Advanced Technologies for Comfort, Safety, Communication, Entertainment & Style on the Road

New Ford Kuga offers technologies that enable voice activation of smartphone apps, hands-free parallel parking and collision avoidance

Bold and sporty exterior with new trapezoidal grille, new headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights and new Guard Grey and Copper Pulse colours

120 hp Ford 1.5 TDCi diesel engine with 4.4 l/100 km and 115 g CO2/km, Ford Intelligent All Wheel Drive improves traction in slippery conditions

Ergonomic cabin with simpler controls, improved comfort with heated steering wheel, Adaptive Front Lighting System automatically adjusts the headlight beam to the environment

The technologically advanced Kuga is one of five new or redesigned models that will represent Ford in the SUV and crossover segments over the next three years

The new Ford Kuga is even more advanced, high quality and affordable, making driving simpler, safer and more enjoyable for the growing number of SUV buyers in Europe.

The new Kuga offers Ford's advanced SYNC3 communication & entertainment system, innovative driver support technologies, an ergonomic and comfortable interior, and new powerful and efficient engines, including the 120 hp 1.5L TDCi diesel with 4.4 l/100 km consumption and 115 g/km CO2 emissions.

The new Kuga features Ford's upgraded Perpendicular Parking Assist system that helps drivers park in both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces - an improved version of the Active City Stop collision avoidance system, and Adaptive Front Lighting for optimal visibility in low-light conditions. Other advanced technologies include Electric Rear Door with Hands Free function and Ford Intelligent All Wheel Drive.

"The new Kuga adopts advanced features and technologies that help drivers travel in comfort, safety and style while staying connected," said Joe Bakaj, vice president, Product Development, Ford Europe. "The new design gives Kuga a fresh, modern look, while SYNC3 allows drivers to communicate with their vehicle and other connected devices in a way unimaginable a few years ago."

Perfectly connected via SYNC3

With Ford's new SYNC3 connectivity system, the new Ford Kuga allows drivers to control functions of the audio and navigation system and connected smartphones through simple voice commands. Ford relied on more than 22,000 reviews and consumer survey data to ensure the latest version of the SYNC system is the most "customer-centric" to date.

SYNC3 offers faster performance, simpler commands and supports five additional languages. By simply pressing a button and saying "I need a coffee," "I need petrol," and "I need to park," drivers can locate nearby coffee shops, gas stations or car parks and find train stations, airports and hotels.

Thanks to SYNC3's 8-inch touchscreen, Kuga drivers can operate it just like their smartphones. The new design includes larger, easier-to-use touch buttons and allows for advanced functions.

iPhone owners can activate Apple CarPlay - the smartest and safest way to use iPhone in the car - to listen to music, send and receive messages, get optimised directions for traffic conditions and more, all while staying focused on the road. Android™ users can activate Android Auto™. With Android Auto, drivers will more safely use and enjoy already familiar and beloved apps and services, such as Google Search, Google Maps and Google Play. The software is updated wirelessly, via Wi-Fi.

SYNC3 also offers SYNC AppLink, which enables voice command control of a range of smartphone apps, including Glympse, Aupeo, Spotify, MyBoxMan, HearMeOut, AccuWeather, and Los 40 Principales.

"Whether you're dreaming of a morning coffee on your daily commute or covering the cost of a trip by making online payments, SYNC3 offers innovative new ways to stay connected on the move," said Christof Kellerwessel, chief engineer, Electronic & Electrical Systems Engineering, Ford Europe. "Designed like modern smartphones, with an intuitive 8-inch touchscreen, SYNC3 better understands voice commands, is faster and offers a more readable graphic design."

Advanced technology for easier parking

The new Ford Kuga will make driving and parking extremely easy using Ford's advanced driver assistance technologies. The new Perpendicular Parking feature upgrades the semi-autonomous Active Park Assist parking system that nearly half of Kuga customers ordered last year. Using additional ultrasonic sensors, the system allows drivers to locate perpendicular parking spaces next to other vehicles or parallel to the road at the touch of a button. It then steers the vehicle by taking over maneuvering the steering wheel while the driver controls only the accelerator and brake.

Additional sensors support technologies that help Kuga drivers when exiting parking spaces:

Cross Traffic Alert warns drivers as they exit a vertical parking space of a possible crossing of cars behind them. The system operates with radar at a range of up to 40 m and emits three warning signals if it detects a vehicle approaching from either side

Park-Out Assist helps drivers as they exit a parallel parking space. After the driver selects the left or right side, the system takes over maneuvering with the steering wheel while the driver operates the accelerator and brake

The new Kuga offers an improved version of Ford's Active City Stop collision avoidance system, which now works at speeds of up to 50 km/h (instead of 30 km/h as before). Active City Stop uses sensors at the front of the vehicle to detect stationary objects on the road and pre-charges the brakes if the vehicle approaches them too quickly. If the driver fails to react, the system reduces engine torque and automatically applies the brakes to reduce the severity of the collision or avoid it altogether.

The latest generation of the Ford MyKey system allows owners of the new Kuga to program a key for younger drivers that can block incoming phone calls, limit the top speed of the car, prevent safety systems from being turned off, limit the maximum volume of the sound system or turn it off completely if passengers are not wearing seatbelts. The upgraded MyKey system offers a greater number of options in speed limitation and speed control settings.

Kuga style and elegance

The new Kuga shares Ford's latest design language with the new EcoSport and Edge SUVs that gives it a bolder, sportier look. The large trapezoidal grille and a smaller air intake are flanked by sleek new headlamps that incorporate LED Daytime Running Lights and finished with fog lamps.

Redesigned tail lights complete the sporty look, while a new range of 17-, 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels are available in a variety of finishes including Luster Nickel. Two new exterior colors, Guard Grey and Copper Pulse, will be offered across the range. An electric, retractable tow bar automatically stores under the rear bumper when not in use, contributing to the sporty appearance of the new Kuga.

The interior of the new Kuga has been carefully designed to deliver an enhanced passenger experience with an emphasis on ergonomics, style and comfort.

The steering wheel and A/C system controls are even more intuitive, with fewer and more prominent buttons and switches, with more recognisable and easy-to-use symbols. The steering wheel also features leather upholstery and is available as a heated steering wheel, offering greater comfort in winter, while all new Kuga automatics have paddles for shifting gears without the driver having to take their hands off the wheel.

New comfort features make Kuga even more user-friendly. The electronic parking brake is more functional and frees up space, increasing storage options in the centre console, and includes handy bottle/glass holders and a USB port for integrating and charging mobile devices. A door lock indicator immediately shows drivers if the doors are locked.

The New Kuga offers a Power Rear Door with Hands-Free function that can be opened or closed with a gentle movement of the foot under the rear bumper. This technology, which was ordered by more than 1 in 3 Kuga customers in Europe last year, facilitates access to the luggage compartment when, for example, drivers return to the vehicle loaded with shopping, prams or babies in their arms

New variants are available for the first time, including the Ford Performance-inspired new Kuga ST-Line and the luxurious, new Kuga Vignale, offering customers a wider range of styling options and equipment through the most comprehensive range in Kuga history.

The Kuga ST-Line features bold exterior and interior styling with unique alloy wheels and sporty seats, and joins the rest of the ST-Line family - Fiesta ST-Line, Focus ST-Line and Mondeo ST-Line. The new Kuga ST-Line will also feature the sportiest handling in the model's history, thanks to chassis enhancements, optimised suspension and steering systems for reduced body roll and more responsive handling.

The top-of-the-range Ford Kuga Vignale is available in an exclusive Vignale Milano Grigio iridescent metallic exterior colour, while the premium character of the model is highlighted by unique hexagonal patterns in Windsor leather with tuxedo stitching on the seats and door panels.

The Vignale version represents the ultimate expression of the Ford brand in Europe. A modern, superior product and user experience defined by an award-winning design, high quality craftsmanship, advanced technologies and exclusive specifications. The Kuga Vignale follows the Ford Mondeo Vignale, S-MAX Vignale and Edge Vignale in Europe.

Powerful and efficient engines

The new Kuga uses Ford's latest TDCi diesel and EcoBoost petrol engines, which combine optimised performance with low CO2 emissions for reduced operating costs.

Consuming 4.4 l/100 km with emissions of 115 g CO2/km, Ford's 1.5L TDCi 120 hp diesel engine with six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) offers 5% improved performance compared to the previous 120 hp two-litre TDCi.

The new Kuga is also available with the following advanced diesel engines:

1.5L TDCi 120 hp, with 6-speed PowerShift automatic transmission (FWD) with 4.8 l/100 km consumption and 124 g/km CO2

2.0L TDCi 150 hp, with 6-speed manual transmission (FWD) with fuel consumption of 4.7 l/100 km and CO2 122 g/km

2.0L TDCi 150 hp 6-speed manual AWD with fuel consumption 5.2 l/100 km and CO2 135 g/km

2.0L TDCi 150 hp with 6-speed PowerShift AWD with fuel consumption of 5.2 l/100 km and CO2 134 g/km

2.0L TDCi 180 hp with 6-speed manual AWD with fuel consumption 5.2 l/100 km and CO2 135 g/km

2.0L TDCi 180 hp with 6-speed PowerShift AWD with fuel consumption of 5.2 l/100 km and CO2 134 g/km

Ford's 1.5L and 2.0L TDCi engines adopt new, advanced diesel technologies with a nitrogen oxide (NOx) catalyst for cleaner emissions, Diamond Like Coating components that reduce friction, and an Advanced Variable Vane Supercharger for better engine breathing.

Ford turbocharged petrol engines feature advanced technologies with high-pressure direct fuel injection and Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing. EcoBoost engine options for Kuga include:

1.5L EcoBoost 150 hp with 6-speed manual FWD with 6.3 l/100 km consumption and 145 g/km CO2

1.5L EcoBoost 182 hp with 6-speed AWD automatic with fuel consumption of 7.5 l/100 km and

CO2 173 g/km

Ford Fuel Economy Technologies such as Auto-Start-Stop and Smart Regenerative Charging that selectively activates the alternator and charges the battery when the vehicle is rolling or braking are offered on all versions.

Improved visibility and safety

Ford's latest technologies and advanced body design improve visibility and therefore road safety of the new Ford Kuga, both for passengers and other road users.

Ford's Adaptive Front Lighting system is available for the first time with Kuga. This system monitors ambient lighting conditions and automatically optimises visibility by adjusting the beam shape of the new bi-xenon headlamps to one of seven settings depending on the vehicle's speed, steering angle and distance to an object in front.

The Adaptive Front Lighting System includes a Weather-Dependent Lighting program that automatically adjusts the headlights to help drivers spot hazards on the road in heavy rain. When it detects a downpour, the system reduces the length and increases the width of the beam to better illuminate the edges of the road and reduce glare for other drivers from flooded roads.

The new Ford Kuga's contoured bonnet creates a wider, discontinuous canopy that not only blends with the sporty, new look of the model, but also features a reinforced structure that better controls bonnet deformation and elasticity, improving pedestrian protection in an accident. Also, the hood and tailgate have been redesigned to mitigate damage to the more expensive components that are replaced after a crash.

The new Kuga also offers advanced Ford technologies such as:

Ford Intelligent All Wheel Drive: adjusts the amount of torque sent to each wheel, optimising handling and traction especially in slippery conditions

Curve Control: compensates for loss of control if the driver enters a corner at excessive speed

Torque Vectoring Control: enhances the driving experience by applying light braking pressure to the inside wheels for better traction and cornering stability

"Advanced technologies like Intelligent All Wheel Drive increase safety and confidence for our customers," said Bakaj. "Intelligent All Wheel Drive measures wheel grip on the road surface and can make adjustments in less than 20 milliseconds - 20 times faster than the blink of an eye."

The new Kuga comes after the launch of the larger Edge earlier in the year and a refreshed version of the EcoSport last year. In doing so it expands its range of SUVs in line with market analyst firm IHS' forecast that SUV sales will grow to 27% in Europe by 2020

The new Kuga and Edge are among five new or redesigned Ford models that will join the SUV and crossover segments over the next three years.

The Kuga spearheaded Ford's SUV expansion in Europe when it was first launched in 2008. Sales grew to record levels reaching 102,000 units in 2015 - an increase of up 19% compared to 2014. Kuga sales in September 2016 were up 4,800 units year-on-year to 14,500, and with 95,300 sales year-to-date, it was the best nine months and best September since launch.

Ford EcoSport sales were up 1,800 units to 6,400 in September from a year ago and were up more than 60% in the first nine months of the year and more than 44,600 units. Customer orders for the Ford Edge have exceeded 7,800 since it was launched in Europe. Ford sold 144,906 SUVs in the first three quarters of 2016 - an improvement of more than 41% compared to the same period last year.

"SUVs have evolved from a small, niche category in Europe to one of the most important automotive trends of the past decade," said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford Europe. "Every time someone predicts a drop in SUV sales, it turns out they are wrong. That's because SUVs have broad appeal across the board, to people of all ages."
