The SEAT Tarraco FR PHEV will make its world debut at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show. With the new model, SEAT is enhancing the efficiency and appeal of the Tarraco by introducing plug-in hybrid engine technology alongside the sporty FR trim level. The plug-in hybrid Tarraco is a demonstration of SEAT's strategy towards electrification, which will include six electric and plug-in hybrid SEAT and CUPRA models by early 2021.
SEAT achieved a record 369,500 sales in the first seven months of the year, with 55,200 vehicles sold in July, an increase of 7.8% compared to 2018. The Tarraco is helping to strengthen the brand's global presence and the plug-in hybrid technology will be a key element in achieving its goals.
"The plug-in hybrid Tarraco perfectly illustrates our path towards sustainable mobility, while retaining the dynamism and driving pleasure that is characteristic of every SEAT model. The Tarraco will be one of the few plug-in hybrid options in the large SUV segment and we believe it will have bright prospects," explains SEAT President Luca de Meo.
Plug-in hybrid version
Designed and developed at SEAT's Martorell facility, the Tarraco is produced in Wolfsburg (Germany), the heart of the Volkswagen Group. With the introduction of the plug-in hybrid engine, the SEAT Tarraco will gain additional performance, making it a highly viable alternative.
The engine system, which includes a 1.4 lt TSI 110 kW petrol engine, 85 kW electric motor and 13 kWh lithium battery, provides the driver with driving versatility. The plug-in hybrid Tarraco provides range in electric mode for over 50 km, with zero emissions, or a combination of petrol engine and electric motor for increased efficiency.
The technology will help the SUV - and SEAT - improve efficiency without having to sacrifice dynamism or comfort. Total output is 245PS (180kW) / 400Nm giving the plug-in hybrid Tarraco a top speed of 217km/h* and a 100km/h capability in just 7.4 seconds*. Importantly, CO2 emissions will be below 50g/km* in the official WLTP test cycle.
FR version
The exterior design has been enhanced with larger wheel arches, a sporty rear spoiler, FRspecial 19" alloy wheels and optional 20" alloy wheels. At the front, the FR grille proudly bears the SEAT badge. The light that runs along the rear of the bodywork enhances the distinctive FR appearance, while the exterior paintwork emphasises the
dynamism.
A new colour - Funa Grey - highlights the exterior changes and offers customers additional options to help personalise their vehicle. The Tarraco has also been improved in safety and practicality. New options include trailer assist which makes towing significantly easier and reduces the likelihood of users experiencing difficulties when parking. An additional new practical option is the Parking Heater system that allows the engine and vehicle to warm up faster in extremely cold weather.
The interior has been cleverly designed to enhance the sense of comfort with the latest generation infotainment system, including a new 9.2-inch navigation system with a 9.2-inch screen. Front passengers benefit from the neoprene and leather electric bucket seats with memory function (on the driver's side) while the driver benefits from the aluminium pedals and the new sporty steering wheel with FR logo.
The FR version and advanced plug-in hybrid engine makes the SEAT Tarraco one of the sportiest and most efficient models in the SUV segment, combining advanced connectivity, comfort and assistance systems, design and style. Production of the FR trim and PHEV version will start during 2020.
