A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure to meet "Spanos S.A." the Chinese premium car manufacturer SERES. The Greek-sounding name, apparently does not refer to the city of Serres, but has a Greek root from the ancient Greek "Sire or Sires", which means the Silk Road to China.
Getting to know Seres
The new automotive company has a vision to become a world-renowned "smart car" manufacturer through smart mobility and the promotion of electrification, focusing on values such as progress, reliability, integrity and excellence and building "High Quality & Technologically Advanced Electric Cars."
Building on its electromobility expertise, smart factories and strategic partnership with Huawei, and with a total investment of $1.7 billion, it is laying the foundations to lead the new era of electromobility.
Having invented the clever platform - "Rubik's Cube", with its application to multiple types and sizes of Sedans, SUVs and MPVS, it looks to the future with optimism. A future that is laying its first foundations in Greece as well.
The surprises in the Greek market
In our country, the Seres 5 is initially available in the four-wheel drive version with an 80 kWh Lithium iron phosphate technology battery that offers an electric range of 500 km, at a price of 66,500 euros, which through the state subsidy ends up at 58,500 euros.
This version will then be joined by the rear-wheel drive version with the same battery and the top-of-the-range, four-wheel drive version with a 90 kWh Semi-Solid battery and a range of 530 km... That's it for the electric versions, as we expect hybrid versions as well.
From July 2024, we expect the Seres 5 EVR with a battery-petrol self-powered hybrid system offering a combined range of 1,200 km, in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions with an output of 480 hp, with an all-electric range of 184 km and a 0-100 time of just 4.6 seconds.
With the same hybrid powertrain but with 433bhp, the 5,020mm-long Seres 7 EVR mid-size SUV is expected from April in five- or six-seat configurations, in two- and four-wheel drive versions and 166km of pure electric drive. 0-100 in just 4.8 seconds.
But the real surprise comes in 2025 with Seres' flagship, the efficient large SUV Seres 9 with a length of 5,230mm, 530 hp and four-wheel drive that delivers a range of 630 hp and has a 97.7 kWh battery, while 0-100 is achieved in just 4.4 seconds.
