In the third episode of the "Ducati World Première 2023" web series, the Bologna-based manufacturer presented the new Multistrada V4 Rally, the Ducati for long-distance touring enthusiasts (see the video here). An unstoppable adventure companion with which you can conquer unexplored places, reaching them in maximum comfort. The ideal motorcycle to explore the world, alone or with a passenger.
With the "Rally" version, Ducati enhances the Multistrada's adventurous spirit, thanks to the improved comfort for rider and passenger, greater autonomy and increased off-road capability. The result is a motorcycle that can adapt just as easily to dirt roads as it can to everyday traffic in modern metropolises. It's the perfect choice for those who want to get to any destination, with top levels of comfort and safety, without sacrificing the unique riding sensations offered by a Ducati. And as with the entire Multistrada V4 family, performance (170 hp), reliability and maintenance costs (every 60,000 km and oil change every 15,000 km/24 months) are class-leading.
In his element in every street
Confirming in practice the name "Rally", the Multistrada V4 is a bike that has further improved its ability to dominate all roads, especially unpaved ones. In practice and in such conditions, the Multistrada V4 Rally can rely on semi-active suspension with increased travel of 200 mm, which guarantees even greater ground clearance. There is also a new Power Mode exclusively for off-road use, wider rider pads with a more contoured profile and removable plastic protector, and a new setting on the Skyhook DSS EVO suspension, which is even more precise and effective on this model. The Multistrada V4 Rally is also equipped with the Autoleveling function, which adjusts the height of the bike when the load (rider, passenger, luggage) changes in order to keep the characteristics of the bike unchanged. Off-road capability is increased on the Multistrada V4 Rally thanks to lightweight radial wheels and reinforced engine guards.
With the new 30-litre aluminium tank, which is seamlessly integrated into the bike's muscular and elegant design, the distance between refuelling is increased. Thanks to this new tank, the Multistrada V4 Rally is now ready to tackle long-distance rides in the most remote parts of the world.
More comfort for rider and passenger
The Multistrada V4 Rally is the ideal motorcycle for travelling with a passenger, as it has been designed in such a way as to enhance the comfort of both rider and passenger. To this end, the windscreen has been redesigned (increased by 40 mm in height and 20 mm in width), the tail section has been lengthened and the luggage rack has been placed further back to create more space for the passenger's feet. The latter has at his or her disposal sills with larger rubber linings to reduce the vibrations reaching his or her feet. In addition, thanks to the availability of saddles of different heights for both rider and passenger and the suspension lowering kit, the Multistrada V4 Rally can be adapted to suit any combination of rider and passenger.
The Minimum Preload function, already featured on the 2022 Multistrada V4 S, allows the rider to lower the bike when stopping or riding at low speed, minimising the preload on the shock absorber. The Multistrada V4 Rally takes a further step in terms of ease of use by introducing the Easy Lift function which, by placing the suspension hydraulics in the ON position, reduces the effort required to lift the motorcycle from the side stand thanks to the compression of the fork and shock absorber.
In addition, to facilitate the loading and unloading of side bags and to make any minor maintenance that may be required during a long journey easier, the Multistrada V4 Rally comes standard with a central stand.
Safety and leading technology
The Ducati Multistrada family continues to be a benchmark in terms of technology and safety, which is further enhanced with the Rally version. The Multistrada V4 was the world's first motorcycle to be equipped with a front and rear radar system supporting Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which makes riding less tiring on long-distance journeys. It also pioneered the Blind Spot Detection (BSD) system, which detects the presence of vehicles approaching the blind spot of the mirrors and alerts the rider.
The 6.5-inch colour TFT screen offers map navigation functions thanks to the Ducati Connect app. This application supports the use of a mobile phone to answer calls or listen to music, in combination with the helmet which can be equipped with an intercom system.
For even more active safety, the Multistrada V4 Rally offers Cornering ABS, which allows maximum use of the brakes even in corners, the Ducati Cornering Lights (DCL) system that improves visibility at night by illuminating the inside of corners, and the Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and Ducati Traction Control (DTC) systems. These systems use the inertial platform (IMU) which calculates the motorcycle's lean angle and intervenes accordingly to ensure correct and safe operation.
Enduro Riding Fashion with exclusive function Power Fashion
To make the most of the Multistrada V4's potential on any kind of track, Ducati has developed four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro). On the Multistrada V4 Rally the Enduro mode is significantly advanced. Selecting Enduro Riding Mode activates a new Power Mode, which limits the power output to 114 hp, with a dynamic and immediate response from the engine. The DSS Evolution system enters off-road riding mode by displaying a specific icon on the screen, which depicts an off-road helmet. DTC becomes less intrusive and DWC is disabled, as is rear wheel ABS, with cornering performance and rear lift detection reduced to better adapt the bike to off-road use.
Developed byo cylinder deactivation system
The new Multistrada V4 Rally also introduces a new rear cylinder bank deactivation system, a technical solution that debuts for the first time in the world on a production motorcycle with the possibility of deactivation on the move. In addition to deactivating the rear cylinders with the motorcycle stationary (a function already present on the Multistrada V4), the V4 Granturismo can now keep the two rear cylinders deactivated in other operating conditions, to the benefit of fuel consumption, reduced emissions and the lowest possible heat.
With this new approach, deactivation is possible even with the motorcycle in motion under rolling or low power requirements. As speed increases or the rider demands more power at the throttle, the rear cylinders re-engage in a fraction of a second, ensuring that the V4 Granturismo retains its character and top performance. This new cylinder deactivation system is available in all driving modes.
Engine and chassis
The 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo engine delivers 170 hp (125 kW) at 10,750 rpm and 121 Nm (12.3 kgm) at 8,750 rpm, with a highly linear torque curve to ensure a smooth and progressive response across the rev range. The performance of this engine, combined with its overall weight of just 66.7 kg, allows the V4 Granturismo to continue to be the benchmark in the class, both in terms of power and low weight.
These numbers are combined with advanced technical solutions, such as a counter-rotating crankshaft, derived from Ducati Corse's MotoGP experience, which works against the gyroscopic inertia of the wheels. The torque curves for each of the gearbox's ratios ensure smooth performance at low revs, strong pull in the mid-range and very high power at high revs.
As for the chassis, the Multistrada V4 Rally continues with the monocoque aluminium frame, which remains light and compact, while the double aluminium swingarm remains. The Multistrada V4 Rally is offered exclusively with radial wheels with tubeless tyres, redesigned and low-weight to further enhance its dynamic riding characteristics.
Equipment
The new Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally is offered in three different versions: the Adventure Radar, which is equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Detection, the Adventure Travel & Radar, which adds aluminium side bags, heated grips & saddle, while the Full Adventure adds to the previous version Akrapovic final exhaust and carbon fibre front mudguard.
Accessories and clothing
In addition to class-leading standard equipment, the Multistrada V4 Rally also comes with a wide range of accessories. In addition to the different saddles, to meet the ergonomic needs of rider and passenger, and the accessories proposed in the three different equipment levels, the following will also be available: different options for the visor, a steel engine guard, additional LED headlights, a Sat-Nav satellite navigation system with exclusive support and various transport solutions, such as top case & soft bag, for those who want to further enhance the unlimited travel capabilities of the Multistrada V4 Rally.
In addition, the rider can make the Multistrada V4 Rally even sportier, with carbon fibre trim on various parts of the bike, aluminium levers and sills, dynamic LED lights and metal brake fluid and clutch fluid reservoirs.
Ducati has also created clothing to match the unique touring character of the new Multistrada V4 Rally. The Atacama C2, for example, features large openings for better ventilation, detachable sleeves and three independent layers, including a thermal liner and waterproof membrane, for all-weather comfort. The Strada C5 is made of comfortable stretch fabric, robust and with thermal protection thanks to a removable Gore-Tex® inner membrane and an inner down jacket that can also be worn alone, off the bike.
