With victories in the "Sports Bikes", "Crossover", "Power Naked", "Adventure Touring" and "Tourers/Sport Tourers" categories, as well as one second and three third places, BMW Motorrad achieved another excellent result in MOTORRAD magazine's readers' selection of the "Motorcycle of the Year 2024".
"Together with the entire BMW Motorrad team, I am very happy with these nine awards and five notable victories. The fact that three M models took first place in the readers' vote best justifies our decision to bring M models to BMW Motorrad. On behalf of everyone, I would like to thank the readers of MOTORRAD magazine for their unconditional support. These awards are also a great confirmation of our desire to inspire customers and friends of the brand with the best offerings in various categories with a highly attractive product range and to further consolidate our leading position in the luxury motorcycle market," said Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad, commenting on the results of this year's readers' choice.
In the highly competitive and exciting "Sports Bikes" category, the BMW M 1000 RR remains dominant for the fourth consecutive year. With a unique combination of sporty handling on country roads, top performance on the track and state-of-the-art riding safety systems, as well as its highly emotional design, it is once again at the top of the reader's preference list for 2024.
The uncompromisingly dynamic BMW M 1000 R is the second BMW Motorrad M model to take first place. With its unrivalled chassis technology and aerodynamics, the BMW M 1000 R ushers in a dimension of dynamic riding that was previously the prerogative of purebred superbikes in its class, taking the highest step on the podium in the "Power Naked" category. The BMW R 1250 R - with its strong character - also took third place in this category.
With the powerful new BMW M 1000 XR long-distance sportbike, a third M model from BMW Motorrad is now pioneering the way for the first time ever. With an engine delivering 148 kW (201 hp), a weight without fluids of just 223 kg and chassis technology and aerodynamics designed for high performance on the open road, long distances and fast laps on the track, the BMW M 1000 XR is the new benchmark in its class, immediately challenging for the top spot in the "Crossover" category.
The new BMW R 1300 GS, which was launched with great success, further consolidated the cult status of the BMW Boxer GS models by taking first place in the "Adventure Touring" category. With its new design, new powerful engine character, outstanding road handling and convincing driving characteristics both on and off-road, the new BMW R 1300 GS reaffirmed Bavarian dominance in this highly competitive category.
The BMW R 1250 RS is another 'serial' winner. After the clear victories of previous years, the BMW R 1250 RS is once again the winner in the 'Tourer/Sporttourer' category. Thanks to its outstanding all-round qualities in the areas of dynamic driving, sporty handling and suitability for touring, it managed to keep the strong competition at bay once again.
In the Modern Classics category, the new BMW R 12 nineT, which combines classic, clean design with modern technology and the legendary air-cooled boxer engine with the new filter box, took second place.
Another 'close relative' from the Heritage class, the BMW R 18, also scored well. In third place in the 'Chopper/Cruiser' category, the BMW R 18 stands out thanks to its authentic and emotional design and its unique 1800 cc boxer.
In the "Scooter" category, the electric and emission-free CE 04 scooter took the podium.
The award ceremony took place on 18 March 2024 in Stuttgart. 49,707 readers participated in the readers' selection from among 26 nominations for the "Motorcycle of the Year 2024", which is considered the most important motorcycle and scooter readers' vote in Europe.
