The importance of air conditioning in the car on hot summer days

The use of air conditioning in the car is essential on hot summer days because, apart from comfort, it also provides safety

The use of air conditioning is essential on hot summer days, not only to provide comfort for the driver, but also to ensure safety during driving. Research by the University of Hamburg has shown that when the internal temperature in the cabin exceeds 35 degrees Celsius, it is equivalent to 0.05% of alcohol in the driver's blood. Also when there are 35 degrees Celsius in the cabin, instead of 25, the temperature can reduce reaction times by 20%. So there is a significant effect on the driver's reaction time. This is the main reason why company engineers spend many months during the production of a model developing the air conditioning system.

If the rear passengers do not feel the cool air, then the air vents may be incorrectly adjusted. They should be pointed upwards and not towards people's faces. In fact, the latter is a major mistake that many drivers make. When outside temperatures are above 40°C, cars inside can reach 70°C. This temperature can be dropped by up to 25 degrees simply by opening the doors and windows just before turning on the air conditioning.

Keeping the air recirculation running does not help, as it delays the air conditioning. Almost all modern cars have an "Auto" option, where the car adjusts itself when to turn on the recirculation as well as the intensity. Also on some summer mornings when it may be cool it is good to turn on the air conditioning to prevent window fogging.

The air conditioning system requires maintenance every 10,000 to 15,000 km. We should be aware that smoking is not allowed with the air conditioning, we do not operate it on the trip with the windows open and we do not choose an interior temperature that has a large difference with the outside temperature. It is also important to set the air conditioning on in winter so that it does not remain inactive for long periods of time.

To keep your car cool, it is a good idea to use a shade cover. For even better results, we can use shades on the side windows as well. It helps to place a cover on the dashboard of the car, as well as a towel on the steering wheel. We should place fragile things like CDs or electronic devices in a shady place or in the glove compartment.

The colour of the car also plays a very important role. The difference between a light-coloured car and a dark-coloured car can be as much as 5 degrees Celsius in the cabin. Using a semi-cushion helps, and parking under a tree has a beneficial effect. The use of tinted windows at the side and rear significantly reduces the cabin temperature and is an option that a large percentage of drivers now take.
