BMW is preparing the return of the M1 with 700 hp!

When we talk about sports cars, we can hardly find a shortage in a brand like BMW, which offers a range of models with the legendary mark "M". And yet, for some of the Staff of Bavarian brandeven the creations of M Division, are not enough. So, according to some reports circulating lately, BMW is preparing a new supercar, which will be installed above the upcoming M8 Coupe, will be hybrid and will have a performance over 700 hp. Most likely it will be the return of the legendary M1, using its nameplate and putting it where it deserves to be: At the top.

The information speaks of a "new super sports car" which is already evolving from BMW to be fitted to its range as a unofficial replacement of today's i8. The plug-in hybrid model with the 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine, reportedly is not to be renewed, as the Bavarian brand has bigger plans for an electric motor. The three-cylinder, according to the same sources, will be... left aside and its place in the new model will be taken by a larger engine internal combustion, probably six-cylinder .

And while a paradox, the i8 seems like will not continuebut the carbon fibre floor of being used as a basis for the new supercar, the Μ1, the information indicates that the conventional engine, together with the electric motors will yield in total and in combination more than 700 horses. The Weight, will be limited under 2 tonnes. Pricing, expected to move above the price of the i8 Coupe and that it will be positioned commercially as the crown of the M Performance series of BMW.

Besides, the company's board member, Klaus Frolich, openly responded to a journalistic question whether the return of M1 is under consideration. “Personally, for once in my life, I'd like to build a supercar. I'm very positive. (...) I have an amazing carbon fibre chassis for a sports car in my portfolio and, for now, it's being used in the i8. If I wanted to use something like that with a lot more performance, it would be running at around 600bhp and wouldn't weigh more than two tonnes“.

According to the sources of information, the new model is not expected to come to market before 2023. Until then, the series "M" is going to grow even bigger, since in this will be added the first in history X3 M and X4 M, along with the M8 Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe, and a new version of the Μ2, η CS
