Just a few months ago, the electric Ford Explorer embarked on an epic journey, together with Lexie Alford, known to millions of people as @LexieLimitless, to demonstrate in practice exactly what it is possible to achieve with an electric vehicle. The goal was also to make Lexie the first person to drive around the world behind the wheel of an EV.
This unique journey in the electric Ford Explorer had the ambitious goal of covering over 29,000 kilometres in 90 days. In the end, Ford's state-of-the-art and technologically advanced EV managed to travel across 6 continents and 27 countries, covering 30,000 kilometres.
Now, starting on November 18th, a new three-episode documentary series detailing the incredible journey is coming to Prime Video, with the film crew following the Charge Around the Globe journey from its beginning in Nice, France, travelling from there to the Atacama Desert in Chile and the mountain peaks of Bhutan.
One of the main inspirations for this journey was Aloha Wanderwell, who, at the age of just 16, became the first woman to drive around the world in a Ford Model T from 1922 to 1927.The documentary includes some of this historic footage of Aloha Wanderwell's journey.
For this epic journey with Lexie Alford, a pre-production version of the electric Ford Explorer was used, ahead of the model's launch last summer.
The documentary series "Charge Around the Globe" consists of three episodes of approximately 50 minutes each and will be available to Prime Video subscribers. It will also be shown on YouTube, on the channel Charge Around the Globe.
Statements
"I was the youngest person to travel to every country around the world, but this was one of the most challenging things I've ever done. While I proved that it is possible to travel around the world using only electricity, it certainly wasn't easy, which shows how different the charging infrastructure is on different continents. I'm very happy to share this adventure on Amazon Prime and I hope this helps us understand how we need to improve to truly ensure zero emissions driving."
