Ford is the most popular commercial vehicle brand in Europe with a market share of 13.2%, thanks to increased demand for the Transit and excellent sales of the Ranger
Ford SUV sales up 31%, with the success of the Kuga and strong demand for the EcoSport the main contributors
The top versions, such as Titanium, Vignale, ST Line, ST and RS, made up 59% of Ford passenger car sales
Higher value retail and fleet sales exceeded the industry average, accounting for 75% of passenger car sales in Ford's top five traditional European markets

Ford Motor Company's European sales increased by 5% in 2016, reaching nearly 1.4 million vehicles in the 20 traditional European markets in which it operates.ι.
Ford sales in the 50 European markets grew 4% in 2016, with 1.5 million vehicles sold. Ford's share in its 50 European markets remains at 7.7%, while its share in the 20 traditional European markets respectively fell by 0.1 percentage point to 7.9%.
"We are proud of our performance in 2016, the models we launched and the rise of SUVs, high-performance and premium trim levels that are outperforming the market," commented Jim Farley, chairman & CEO, Ford Europe. "We expect even more in 2017 and beyond, including the next generation Fiesta and further development of electric vehicles - launching the Transit Custom as a plug-in hybrid in 2019 and a new small, battery electric SUV by 2020."
Ford passenger car sales increased by 2% to over 1 million, making 2016 the best year for Ford passenger cars in the 20 European markets since 2011. Retail and fleet sales combined accounted for 75% of Ford passenger vehicle sales in 2016, putting Ford's mix ahead of the industry average in the top five traditional European markets by 2 percentage points.
More than half (59%) of Ford passenger car sales in 2016 were upper trims, including Titanium, Vignale, ST Line, ST and RS - an increase of 1% compared to 2015.
"Customers appreciate the increased performance and style in our higher trim levels," said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford Europe. "We are excited ahead of the launch of the next generation Fiesta with Titanium, Vignale and ST Line versions arriving this summer."
Ford was once again number one in commercial vehicle sales in Europe, with market share up 0.6 percentage points to 13.2% in the 20 traditional European markets. Ford commercial vehicle sales grew 17% in 2016 achieving a record 328,600 units - driven by strong demand for the Transit and Ford Ranger product ranges.
Sales of the larger Ford Transit and Transit Custom models increased by 15% to 203,000 vehicles, setting a record in the overall 1 and 2 tonne category. The Ford Ranger - up 42%, a record 38,600 small trucks - is No. 1 in its class, according to data through November 2016, the most recent available.
Ford SUV sales increased by 31% in 2016 to 185,800 vehicles, led by the Kuga (up 17%, a record 119,400 vehicles), the EcoSport (up 43% with record sales of 57,200 vehicles) and the Edge (which ended the year with 9,300 vehicles since sales began in the summer).
Sales of Ford Performance models - including Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Focus RS, Mustang and GT - grew 60% in 2016, with 43,800 units, continuing the upward trend from 2015 (up 62%).
December sales
Ford's December sales increased by 0.2% in the 20 traditional European markets, but decreased by 2.6% in all 50 European markets. Ford's share in the 20 European markets decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 7.5% in December, and correspondingly in the 50 European markets by 0.2 percentage points to 7.5%.
