Jeep Grand Cherokee

Η Jeep at 80α birthday, continues to surprise, this time unveiling the all-new Grand Cherokee, which will also be available for the first time in 4xe electrified form. Since 1992 when the 1η generation of the model, a new ultimate benchmark was created for the premium SUV segment. Today, the 5η generation Jeep Grand Cherokee, introduces an all-new model that raises the bar even higher in terms of technology, safety, luxury, off-road capabilities and environmental friendliness, being the first Grand Cherokee in history to feature an all-electric powertrain.

"The Jeep Grand Cherokee is our "flag", which will lead the brand into a new era, premium sensing, innovative technologies, off-road capabilities and electrified mobility", said Christian Meunier, CEO of Jeep. "With the ideal balance between on- and off-road traffic, the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee, is the most advanced and luxurious Grand Cherokee ever built."

Externally, the new Grand Cherokee retains the imposing character that has always accompanied the model, but now with a more aerodynamic profile. The legendary 7 vertical grille dominates the front end, while the wider wheelbase (by 36mm) gives the car an even more rugged presence, while improving its handling on tarmac. For the first time, 21-inch diameter wheels are available, perfectly matching the characteristic square wing contours.

The flexibility offered by the new framework on which the 5η generation of the model, allows the creation of two versions in terms of length and wheelbase. The new 5-seater Grand Cherokee has a length of 4.91m and a wheelbase of 2.96m, while the 7-seater Grand Cherokee L with a length of 5.2m and a wheelbase of 3.09m accommodates passengers in three rows of seats.

The interior of the Grand Cherokee 5 is also completely newης generation, which is characterized by luxurious top quality materials and cutting-edge technology. The driver and front passenger have access to three high-definition screens totalling over 30.5 inches, while the 16-point adjustable seats with massage function and heating/cooling option further enhance comfort levels. The cabin's adjustable LED lighting contributes to creating an absolutely premium feel, while the premium connectivity offered by the Uconnect 5 multimedia system with its wireless mirroring function and 5G network compatibility is complemented by the ability to charge two mobile devices wirelessly at the same time.

The total space available for passengers exceeds 4 square metres, while the 1,000 litres of luggage space even allows for the vertical positioning of a bag of golf clubs. Particular attention has been paid to the second and third row passengers to ensure they enjoy a unique travel experience, thanks also to the Amazon Fire TV and rear screens, through which it is possible to play music and video, browse the internet and even adjust the air conditioning for each individual passenger. Finally, the top audio experience is ensured by the McIntosh 950W audio system, with Jeep having the exclusive partnership with this renowned hi-end system manufacturer.

The new Grand Cherokee's top active safety levels are ensured by more than 110 advanced safety systems (ADAS), which optimise the driver's interaction with the vehicle and the road and offer Level 2 autonomous driving. At the same time, the new chassis on which the model is based features increased rigidity with lower weight for even greater safety and comfort in all conditions.

Unsurpassed power, in total control and in harmony with the environment

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is equipped with a family of engines that stands out for its high performance, durability and the high technology that has been implemented to benefit fuel economy and environmental protection.

The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 petrol engine produces 293bhp and 353Nm of torque. Having won multiple awards thanks to its performance and extremely smooth operation, the V6 engine has a new upgraded variable timing system, as well as a stop & start system that allow it to get better fuel economy throughout its operating range. For those looking for even more power, the 5.7-litre V8 engine producing 357bhp and 529Nm of torque impresses with its performance and towing capacity of 3,265kg on the new Grand Cherokee. At the same time, the unit is equipped with a cylinder deactivation system that offers fuel economy from 5% to 20% depending on conditions. Both pure petrol-powered sets are combined with an 8-speed gearbox and, of course, an all-wheel drive system (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II or QuadraDrive II depending on the version).

For the first time electrified

For the first time, a Grand Cherokee gets an electrified version thanks to Jeep's innovative 4xe Plug-in Hybrid system. A two-litre turbocharged petrol engine from Stellantis' GME engine family works with two electric motors to deliver a total of 375bhp (280kW) and 637Nm of torque, making the 4xe version the most powerful of the 5ης generation of the model. The system enables all-electric drive with a range approaching 40km, while the implementation of the Quadra Trac II 4×4 system gives all the four-wheel drive options expected of a thoroughbred off-road vehicle, such as short ratios. The hybrid system is located between the internal combustion engine and the 8-speed automatic transmission, transferring power to the transmission and from there to all wheels with exceptional efficiency and smoothness thanks to this architecture.

"The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe can choose the hybrid system mode that best suits its route. From pure electric drive for urban commuting, to hybrid for travelling to avoid the stress of charging and back to pure electric when he wants to discover nature on off-road routes in total silence." Mr Meunier noted. "This is another step towards achieving our vision of freedom with zero pollution. Our goal is by 2025 to offer an all-electric Jeep in each SUV category."

Authentic Jeep off-road possibilities

Along with being a dynamic, comfortable and safe premium SUV for everyday commuting, the new Grand Cherokee offers the top off-road capabilities you'd expect from a Jeep. Three advanced 4×4 systems are available - Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II with an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential. These are combined with an active transmission system that transfers torque to the wheel for the best traction, as well as Jeep's exclusive Quadra-Lift™ active air suspension, which among other things offers the longest ground clearance in the class (28.7cm) and a 61cm-deep water stall crossing. Finally, the state-of-the-art Selec-Terrain™ traction management system features 5 options (Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, Mud/Sand) and ensures the ideal settings for all the car's systems (engine, transmission, braking system, etc.) depending on the conditions.

The all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee is being built at the brand's Detroit production facility and is expected to be available for the B. It is expected to be launched in the North American market at the end of the year. In other markets, the 5η generation Grand Cherokee is expected to be available in 2022.
