This is the new BMW M 1000 R

BMW

"The M R is BMW Motorrad's second M model. Based on the current S 1000 R and S 1000 RR models, the M 1000 R - M R for short - has been fine-tuned in terms of product features to meet the specific requirements of a supersport roadster. The dynamic behaviour speaks for itself, both on the country road and on the track." Ralf Mölleken , Project Manager 4-cylinder models.

The new BMW M R : Η M Roadster meets the highest requirements both on the country road and on the track

At the end of 2018, BMW Motorrad had already introduced the successful M car series strategy for motorcycles and has since then been offering the special M equipment and M Performance Parts. The new BMW M 1000 R - hereafter referred to as M R for short - is the second M model from BMW Motorrad to celebrate its world premiere after the M 1000 RR superbike: the M Roadster.

In the 50th anniversary year of BMW M GmbH, BMW Motorrad, with the new M R, is faithfully following the dynamic philosophy of the world's most powerful lettering: The letter M is synonymous with racing success, the magic of high-performance BMW models, and is aimed at customers with particularly high demands in terms of performance, exclusivity and personalisation.

With 154 kW (210 hp) of engine power, a DIN weight of just 199 kg with a full tank of fuel, suspension technology, and aerodynamics designed for high performance on the road and fast laps on the track, the new M R offers a dynamic driving experience in the roadster class, which until recently was the exclusive domain of purebred superbikes.

The powerful 4-cylinder engine of the M R based on the engine of the RR . Even higher maximum power, higher torque and increased thrust and traction, thanks to the shorter secondary transmission and shorter ratios.

The new M R features a modified, water-cooled 4-cylinder in-line engine, based on that of the S 1000 RR. Its maximum power output is 154 kW (210 hp) at 13,750 rpm, +33 kW (45 hp) compared to the S 1000 R. Maximum torque of 113 Nm is produced at 11,000 rpm. (S 1000 R: 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm). Compared to the S 1000 R, the M R's maximum rpm is now 14,600 sal. Increased rear wheel traction at all speeds is also provided by a shorter secondary transmission ratio through the use of a 47-tooth rear sprocket (S 1000 R: 45 teeth). In addition, the 4th, 5th and 6th gear ratios are shorter, which benefits push and traction at the rear wheel.

M winglets and air deflectors: You can brake later, benefit from less front wheel lift and accelerate earlier thanks to the aerodynamic vertical force

In addition to powertrain and suspension technology, aerodynamics was also a key element in the specification for the development of the M R. The new M R incorporates winglets in the front, side panel area, with the aim of achieving faster track times and improving driving stability at high speeds. Already at a speed of 160 km/h, the winglets start to perform, providing an 11 kg increase in front wheel load at 220 km/h, thanks to the aerodynamic vertical force generated. BMW Motorrad's development engineers have compensated for the slightly increased aerodynamic drag caused by the small additional frontal area and the shape of the M winglets by adopting a correspondingly designed air deflector in front of the instrument panel in conjunction with the M Competition Package.

Suspension and chassis optimised for performance-driven use on country roads and tracks, with fully adjustable suspension components, steering damper, machined steering clamp, wider tubular steering wheel with " BMW M 1000 R " laser engraved and mirrors mounted on the edges of the steering wheel

The suspension and chassis of the new M R are based on the S 1000 R with the aluminium bridge-type frame at its heart. On the M R, the front wheel is controlled by an inverted fork with a 45 mm diameter in an "All black" design. It is equipped with so-called closed cartridge inserts, with separate piston-cylinder hydraulic systems. Another new feature of the M R is the additional possibility to adjust the preload of the fork spring in combination with the standard Dynamic Damping Control (DDC).

In addition, the M R's fork features an upper triple clamp with an intricately machined steering plate, as well as black, aluminium tubular handlebars with a wider design seen on the S 1000 R and a laser-engraved "BMW M 1000 R" inscription. Also new to the M R are the mirrors installed on the handlebar ends, which are made of forged aluminum. The fork stems have similarly been modified and are now designed to fit the new M brake calipers. Another new feature of the M R is the adjustable steering damper.

Brakes M with radial pump and lightweight forged alloy wheels for optimum dynamic behaviour on the track and in high performance mode. Exclusive wheels M Carbon as part of the package M Competition

After the M 1000 RR, the new M R is the second BMW motorcycle to feature M brakes. The system was developed by building on the experience gained with the racing brakes on BMW Motorrad factory race bikes in the World Superbike Championship. The M brake calipers have a blue anodised coating combined with the famous M logo.

Together with two 320 mm diameter and 5 mm thick disc brakes and black anodised aluminium bases, the braking system, which is equipped with a new radial pump on the brake calliper, currently marks the epitome of evolution in the field of braking systems for road use. The new M R is already equipped with very lightweight forged aluminium wheels as standard. As part of the M Competition package, the exclusive M Carbon wheels are available with newly designed strips on their rims.

Brake Slide Assist - helps the rider to brake by dribbling

The new Brake Slide Assist function is an important and very useful innovation, especially for track riders. It allows the rider to drift brake entering the corners with a constant slip.

Instrument panel with easy-to-read display TFT 6.5", new tachometer display (red area) and interface OBD for the M GPS Datalogger and the M GPS Laptrigger which can be used via an activation code

The instrument panel of the new M R mirrors the design of the M RR, also offering the M start-up animation. The enlarged display of the red tachometer area is a new feature. As optional equipment, the use of the M GPS Laptrigger and M GPS Datalogger (Genuine BMW Motorrad Accessories) can be upgraded and provided via an activation code via the dashboard's OBD interface.

The ' M Design ' and its dynamic design language M R suggest pure performance and sporty character.

Even more than the S 1000 R, the new M R, with optimised suspension technology and the most powerful engine to date fitted to a dynamic BMW Motorrad roadster, is uncompromisingly designed for sporty riding on both country roads and the track. This is the M R, a motorcycle that is currently the best the roadster class has to offer today. The M R's proportions are extremely compact and dynamic, and the 3D designed surfaces are as exciting as they are imposing. Slim, sleek and highly aggressive, the M R looks very distinctive from the front with its new M winglets. In addition, the distinctive front light makes the new M R recognisable as a BMW motorcycle - similar to the kidney grille on BMW cars.

The performance-oriented appearance of the new M R is also reflected in its colour philosophy. The Lightwhite non-metallic / M Motorsport colour scheme makes the basic M R look particularly light, sporty and rider-friendly, while the Blackstorm metallic / M Motorsport colour combination included in the M Competition Package represents the ultimate in power and dynamism.

Incompatible design and technology: Η M R with the M Competition Package

If the new M R with standard equipment isn't enough for you, the M Competition Package offers an exciting mix of optimised components for racing enthusiasts and aesthetically-minded riders. Plus the Blackstorm metallic / M Motorsport colour scheme, the M Competition includes M Carbon wheels, M rider sill system, M Carbon components such as rear wheel cover and chain guard, front wheel cover, fuel tank covers, filter box cover with decorative stripes, air deflector, gear cover, M co-driver package, M co-driver cover and a machined, fully adjustable M rider sill system.
