Η Lamborghini plans to launch its first electric model in 2029, as the time is not ripe for full electrification in the sports car segment, said CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
Lamborghini had previously stated that its first EV was to be released in 2028. Italian rival Ferrari will launch its first EV model in the first quarter of next year.
"We don't think 2029 is too late to have an electric car. We don't think that, in our category, the market will be ready in 2025 or 2026," Winkelmann told reporters at Lamborghini's headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese, near the northern Italian city of Bologna.
The indications
Lamborghini previewed the EV with the Lanzador concept in 2023. The automaker said at the time that the 2+2 grand tourer would combine the performance of a supercar with the versatility of a car that can be driven daily.
The EV will be Lamborghini's fourth model, joining the Urus crossover, the plug-in hybrid Revuelto coupe and the Huracan coupe.
