Η Alfa Romeo in a spectacular event at its museum in Arese, presented the long-awaited rebirth of the limited production 33 Stradale, a veritable "manifesto" of what the Italian brand can - and wants - to do in terms of style and driving experience. Built in just 33 units, with an exquisite handcrafted process, the new exclusive two-seater coupe combines the heritage and future of the brand that symbolizes the noble Italian sporting nature.
To make a dream come true requires, first of all, a good dose of courage and a healthy dose of madness. The same ingredients that gave birth in 1967 to the car considered by many to be one of the most beautiful of all time, the 33 Stradale. Today, with the same boldness and vision, the Alfa Romeo team has designed and developed the new 33 Stradale, an authentic work of art on the move, created by the perfect combination of beauty and technology. Its aim is to offer the most thrilling driving experience and the immortal charm of an idol to a very small circle of fanatics who have believed in the project from the very beginning. The new 33 Stradale, in fact, was born in Alfa Romeo's newly created "Bottega", where the brand's designers, engineers and historians first listened to potential buyers and then built it together, just as it was done in the Renaissance workshops or the workshops of famous Italian coachbuilders in the 1960s.
Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of the Alfa Romeo brand said:
"With the new 33 Stradale, we wanted to create something that lived up to our past, to the brand's legacy, of which Alfisti could be proud. This result could only be achieved thanks to the skill, rigour and passion of our team, backed by a management team with the clear ambition to help shape the future of the brand, in full respect of its unique history. This is the brand's first "fuoriserie" since 1969 and I promise it will not be the last.
Maximum expression of "necessary beauty"
A product of Alfa Romeo's Centro Style, the new 33 Stradale is inspired by the historic 1967 model, enriching its sculptural beauty with some design elements from Alfa Romeo's new stylistic language. The exterior is characterised by a perfect balance between proportions, volumes and surface treatment, representing the epitome of Alfa Romeo's "essential beauty". The front features a strong and muscular volume, on which the emblematic shield stands out, and composite-shaped lamps on an elliptical base. The side line is dynamic and elegant, with 'elongated' opening doors and two large side air intakes. The bodywork projects forward, with surfaces shaped according to the criteria that characterise the typical Alfa Romeo expression. In addition, thanks to the angled door opening and the large peripheral roof glass, the driver enjoys a unique view, very similar to that which he would have in the cabin of a jet. The overall impression provided by the opening of the bonnet and doors enhances the dramatic appearance of the car. The "violent" rear end is balanced by the sinuous front end and the maximum height is not at windscreen height, as in any other sports car, but in the centre of the roof. In particular, the rear expresses the power of the car thanks to the cut tail, the graphic "V" and the round tail lights. Aerodynamic efficiency is confirmed by a Cx coefficient of 0.375 at zero Cz (downlift) - with precise selection without the aid of active systems.
The importance of design and materials also characterises the interior, as everything is designed to maximise the driving experience. In particular, the cockpit is designed to minimise components that can distract the driver. This is evidenced by the few useful driving controls that find space on the centre console. In front of the driver is a display that, thanks to a 3D 'telescope' applied to it, engages the driver in a unique interaction. The steering wheel, free of all the buttons normally found on it, allows you to enjoy pure driving pleasure. Like in an aircraft cockpit, the controls are located at different levels, on the low centre console and on a high console in the central roof lining. The interior is offered in two trim levels: "Tributo" and "Alfa Corse". The dashboard and centre tunnel, inspired by aviation, use materials such as aluminium, carbon fibre, leather and Alcantara. The wraparound seats, upholstered in Poltrona Frau leather, redefine those of the ancestor, ensuring comfort and ergonomics. Every detail has been designed to create an exclusive and appealing atmosphere, preserving the aesthetic and technical heritage of the 1967 33 Stradale.
Unique driving experience
The Alfa Romeo team set the ambitious goal of offering a driving experience like a track car, but suitable for everyday road use, without compromising comfort and ease of use even in everyday life. To this end, the new 33 Stradale features the very best of Alfa Romeo engineering, as evidenced by the double-arm suspension with active dampers and the evolution of the V6 engine.
The new Alfa Romeo "fuoriserie" is available with a twin-turbo V6 engine with over 620hp or in BEV configuration with over 750hp. Performance is excellent in both versions. Top speed is 333 km/h, while acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes less than 3 seconds. The double-arm suspension with active shock absorbers and front axle lift ensure ride and comfort. Alfa Romeo's Brake-By-Wire braking system and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes deliver top performance.
The aluminium H frame and carbon fibre monocoque guarantee rigidity and lightness. A carbon fibre and aluminium roof structure with hinges for securing the butterfly doors has also been designed for high rigidity and safety. The window frames are also made of carbon fibre, while the rear window is made of polycarbonate.
The car will be set up with the support of F1 driver Valtteri Bottas at the legendary Balocco circuit, bringing the F1 experience to everyday driving and ensuring Alfa Romeo's unmistakable handling.
The 'Bottega'
With the 33 project came Alfa Romeo's 'Bottega', a team of professionals who worked closely with customers to design 33 unique and exclusive pieces. 'Bottega' was inspired by the Renaissance workshops and coachbuilders of the 1960s, creating works of art of pure beauty and following customer specifications. Customers were involved in the creative process from the beginning of the project. The first meetings with some of them took place on the occasion of the 2022 Monza Grand Prix and they had the opportunity to express their wishes for their car. Within a few weeks, all 33 cars were sold. Bottega is based in the Council Chamber of the Arese Museum, where the design of the 33 Stradale was approved in 1967. Finally, it is up to the 33's committee to approve the requests of the customers, ensuring respect for the history and iconic nature of the car. This is a special committee, chaired by the CEO of Alfa Romeo and made up of the heads of various divisions of the brand.
Craftsmanship and innovation for an unprecedented level of customisation
The new "fuoriserie" will be produced in just 33 units through a special project that allowed customers to develop functional styling elements with Alfa Romeo's development team, such as air intakes, wheels and even the distinctive front fascia. This means that no two cars in the world will ever be identical, making them de facto 'four-wheeled' masterpieces that will have the ambition to go down in Alfa Romeo history in their own right. Uniqueness also evidenced by an exclusive registration process that allows the customer to "sign" the chassis number. In fact, the specific VIN includes 8 digits of the customer's choice and also appears in the central tunnel. Building on its well-established experience in the field of the most exclusive bespoke cars, Alfa Romeo uses the craftsmanship of Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera to manufacture the cars, thus ensuring bespoke quality standards that ensure furious attention to detail.
At the roots of the myth
The 33 Stradale of 1967 was directly derived from the Tipo 33, the queen of world motorsport at the time. The 33 project marked Alfa Romeo's return to competition, led by then brand president Giuseppe Eugenio Luraghi and Carlo Chiti of Autodelta, the newly formed racing division. The Fléron climb near Liège was chosen for the debut; the car was driven by Autodelta's chief test driver, Teodoro Zeccoli. It is 12 March 1967 and 33 enters the world of racing. And he wins immediately. It was the first of a long series of successes on the most prestigious circuits that would take the car to the top of the world, with victories in the 1975 and '77 Marche championships. In the wave of enthusiasm for motorsport, Alfa Romeo decided to build the 33 in a very small series for private customers, a " fuoriserie " that would combine the performance of the Tipo 33 race car with the comfort and driving behaviour suitable for everyday use. The design was entrusted to Franco Scaglione, who put all his technical experience and creative audacity into the design of the 33 Stradale, creating a masterpiece in which stylistic innovation merged with research into aerodynamics and functionality.
The design of the 33 Stradale of 1967, the quintessence of beauty in a car, is almost impossible to describe, what expresses it is the balance of shapes, the purity of lines, the elegance of every detail. Only 18 models were produced between 1967 and 1969, one of which is now kept in the Arese Museum, making it extremely rare and sought after by collectors. Six of these chassis were used to build as many prototypes, anticipating two decades of car design: the Carabo (1968), the P33 Roadster GS (1968), the 33/2 Coupé Speciale (1969), the Cuneo (1971) and the Iguana (1969) the Navajo (1976). In short, the 33 Stradale is a legendary model that marked not only the history of Alfa Romeo, but also that of Italian design.
DESIGN - THE EMBODIMENT OF PURPOSEFUL ELEGANCE
Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, head of Alfa Romeo's design department, states: "Alfa Romeo is the first company to have created a new car for which there must be a new design: "The 33 Stradale initiative was born from the fervour and commitment of a dedicated team at Alfa Romeo Centro Stile. Drawing inspiration from Franco Scaglione's 1967 classic, the design boldly hints at the future aesthetic direction of Alfa Romeo. This result is a testament to Italian design tradition and expertise. It truly represents 'purposeful elegance': minimal but striking lines that evoke both sensuality and power, evoking deep emotions."
The seductive design, created by Alfa Romeo Centro Stile, gives this exclusive "fuoriserie" car a fusion of charm and performance. With respect to a true classic car, but infused with distinctive character and boldness, Alfa Romeo Centro Stile embarked on a journey to improve its proportions and enhance its aesthetic charm, incorporating elements from Alfa Romeo's contemporary design language. The car's dimensions echo the original, with design nuances updated, yet the fundamental inspiration remains intact.

**TECHNICS - REDEFINING DRIVING**
The Alfa Romeo team behind the new 33 Stradale took on a high ambition, to create a vehicle that offers the thrill of a race track experience, but is suitable for everyday use on the road, allowing even the ordinary driver to feel the excitement. The 33 Stradale, although road-legal, demonstrates unrivalled performance, agility and comfort. To achieve this, each of the 33 models will undergo rigorous development, testing and certification by a dedicated team of engineers, in collaboration with F1 driver Valtteri Bottas. Bottas will offer his expertise to fine-tune the car at the Balocco Proving Ground in Vercelli, bringing F1 dynamics to everyday driving and ensuring Alfa Romeo's signature handling. The key components that take the performance of the Italian marque's special edition to new heights are highlighted below.
**MOVEMENT OPTIONS:**
The 33 Stradale offers two options, a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine producing over 620bhp, mated to an eight-speed DCT transmission, rear-wheel drive and an electronic limited-slip differential. Alternatively, there is a BEV configuration that delivers over 750bhp with an estimated range of 450km (WLTP). The internal combustion engine, an evolution of the V6 found in the brand's high-performance vehicles, allows the car to reach speeds of up to 333 km/h and sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds. Drivers can switch between 'Road' and 'Track' modes, tailoring the car's performance characteristics to their driving preferences.
**STRUCTURE AND CONTEXT: **
The dynamic development of the 33 Stradale benefits from its light and rigid structure. The H frame, made of aluminium, ensures maximum torsional rigidity and precise handling. The monocoque, made of carbon fibre, aims to minimise weight and optimise the car's centre of gravity. Additional structural elements such as the carbon fibre and aluminium roof and specially designed hinges for butterfly-shaped door opening further enhance the rigidity and safety of the car.
**RESPONSE: **
The 33 Stradale features a double-arm suspension system with active shock absorbers and semi-virtual steering on both axles. This exclusive Alfa Romeo technology ensures optimum control and precision steering, providing excellent handling in all conditions, while offering comfort by filtering out road imperfections.
**FORWARD AXLE LIFT:**
This function allows the front of the car to be raised when it encounters obstacles, preventing possible damage. Activated via the 'Assetto' control on the centre console, the hydraulic system can raise the front axle by around 50 mm when driving below 40 km/h.
**PERFORMANCE CHECK:**
The 33 Stradale offers various performance controls to enhance the driving experience. In "Pista" mode, drivers can activate the "Fast Start" process for optimal acceleration. In addition, the "Suspension" dial allows drivers to adjust the suspension settings according to the selected driving mode.
**BRAKING SYSTEM: **

Built by Brembo for Alfa Romeo, the carbon ceramic brakes provide superior performance and braking response. The braking system also offers customisation options for the calipers, which are available in various colours on request.
**THE "WORKSHOP" - CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS THE CLIENTELE**
The art of creating a unique, unparalleled masterpiece, shaping materials and nuances into absolute elegance, has its roots in the Italian Renaissance. During this era, master craftsmen transformed objects into striking, high-quality pieces, tailored to their clients' wishes. This ethos was reflected in the 1960s by famous Italian car designers, who hand-built some of the most iconic vehicles in the automotive industry.
This tradition is revived in the "Workshop", where a dedicated Alfa Romeo team worked closely with customers for a year to design and then build 33 different versions of the new 33 Stradale.
Initial contacts with potential customers were made at the 2022 Monza Grand Prix, where brand enthusiasts were introduced to the preliminary designs of the car, a product of Alfa Romeo Centro Stile's passion. The allure of reviving such an iconic vehicle was so well received that all 33 units were quickly claimed.
Alfa Romeo then reopened the Museum's Council Chamber in Arese, the same place where the green light was given for the design of the 33 Stradale in 1967, to serve as the base for the Workshop. Here, customers could formulate their visions for their vehicles while honoring the brand's historical heritage.
The 33-strong steering committee, headed by Alfa Romeo's CEO and made up of leaders from eight brand divisions, was responsible for reviewing each customer's specifications. Once approved, the engineering team assessed the feasibility of these requests for production.
**CUSTOMISED DESIGN - UNCOMPETITIVE PERSONALISATION**
The 33 Stradale, with only 33 units planned for production, offers an unparalleled degree of personalisation, from a myriad of body colours to interior materials. A special programme caters to customers with unique requests, ensuring that their vehicle becomes a special chapter in Alfa Romeo's heritage. Each car, designed to be one of a kind, undergoes a special registration process with a unique VIN.
The first part of the VIN identifies the make, while the next part, decided jointly with the 33 customers, defines the model of the vehicle. The last part, which can be customised by the owner, serves as his personal 'signature' on the vehicle.
Alfa Romeo has partnered with the renowned Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, a company with a heritage of building some of the brand's most iconic vehicles.
This partnership represents a fusion of traditional craftsmanship, cutting-edge technology and customer ambitions, reminiscent of Alfa Romeo's early 20th century collaborations with famous Italian car designers. Throughout the customization process, customers are guided in translating their visions into reality.
Two fundamental interior designs (Tributo and Alfa Corse) serve as starting points for the 33 Stradale's configuration. However, due to the adaptability of the technical construction, special requests, such as a unique colour or finish, can be satisfied, subject to the approval of the 33 Commission.
