Looking back to the past
PEUGEOT's first station wagon dates back to 1949, the year the PEUGEOT 203 was introduced. At that time, this category was still in its infancy and no one knew if there was really a customer base for this type of car. But the lion-branded brand knew it had created something good, so much so that it offered two versions of the PEUGEOT 403 station wagon: a family station wagon and a more basic commercial car.
Given how warmly the people received them, PEUGEOT was encouraged to develop its range. In 1956, the PEUGEOT 403 station wagon was launched, which also came in Family (family) and Commercial (commercial) versions. It was replaced in 1962 by the PEUGEOT 404 station wagon, while the PEUGEOT 203 station wagon waited until 1965 and the arrival of the PEUGEOT 204 for its descendant to appear.
The story continues and new chapters unfold as time goes by: the PEUGEOT 304 and 504 station wagon in the 1970s, the PEUGEOT 305, 505 and 405 station wagon in the 1980s, the PEUGEOT 306 and 406 SW in the 1990s. In the early 2000s, PEUGEOT furthered this offering with two original proposals: a PEUGEOT 206 SW, released in a particularly small size for a car in this class, and a PEUGEOT 307SW that recycles some good ideas found in minivans.
The list continues with the SW versions of the first PEUGEOT 308 and PEUGEOT 407, as well as the first and second generation PEUGEOT 508. With all of these models, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that almost everyone can recall some form of PEUGEOT station wagon from memories of the past.
The next chapter in Peugeot's SW history is written with the new Peugeot 308 which will be the French brand's major launch next year, available with a full range of petrol and diesel engines and two plug-in hybrid versions of 180 and 225 hp.
