Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced that in December
2020 has managed to develop a proprietary system that uses AI to
predict the physical properties of the rubber components. The system is used
already for the design of YOKOHAMA tires, with the YOKOHAMA tire industry expecting that the system's ability to conduct a large number of virtual tire tests
experiments, will allow it to accelerate the development of complex products, reduce
development costs and develop better performing products. The system will
also makes it easier for its less experienced engineers to create new
Ingredients.
The system was developed on the new, prototype laboratory
HAICoLab* of the YOKOHAMA tyre industry, implemented in October 2020. The system
uses AI to predict physical properties in its compounds rubber, on the basis of the design parameters introduced
an engineer. In addition, to facilitate the ability of engineers to confirm
the predicted results, the system includes a function that displays
the certainty of predicted physical properties and one that seeks a complex
composition that will achieve physical properties closer to the targeted ones. The new
system enables collaborations between humans and AI that will lead to the acquisition
new knowledge. In the future, the Yokohama tyre industry will expand the use of
of this new system to a wide range of the company's products, including
of pipes and conveyor belts.
HAICoLab is a new concept that aims to promote
digital innovations, facilitating collaborative efforts that combine digital innovation and
human inspiration and creativity with the enormous capacity to process data
of AI. The YOKOHAMA tire industry, aims to gain new knowledge by creating and collecting data
based on hypothetical conditions, defined by people and then applying
AI prediction and analysis is achieved to search for the optimal
Results. The YOKOHAMA tyre industry has advanced in technological
developments using AI in material design and development processes
and tyres. For example, in 2017 it introduced a new material development technology
of rubber that applies material informatics and a design technology
tyres applying information technology. Based on the new philosophy
HAICoLab, YOKOHMA is now using AI to
develop innovative products and services and processes. Through this
of the effort, YOKOHAMA will contribute to the realization of
of "Society 5.0", a future society that will enhance the experiences
people and the benefits of innovative technologies such as AI and IoT (Internet of Things),
with the support of the Japanese government.
The company THEOCHARAKIS SA, imports and distributes the high quality
YOKOAMA tires in the Greek market since 1957. More information about
