The BMW X2 is the car that first introduced the Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) concept to the premium compact segment. Now, the baton is passed on to the second generation - even more distinctive in appearance, sportier and more progressive in philosophy. Significantly larger dimensions and a pronounced coupé silhouette clearly highlight through the exterior design the leap forward in development made by the new BMW X2. The progressive character of the new model is also evident in the all-electric BMW iX2 version, in a multitude of automated driving and parking systems as well as in the innovative digital services offered by the new BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9.
The global market launch will start in March 2024 with the all-electric BMW iX2 xDrive30, the BMW X2 M35i xDrive performance model, another petrol version and a diesel model. A second all-electric version and another diesel version will be added to the range in summer 2024.
The new BMW X2 and the new BMW iX2 will be flexibly produced on a single assembly line at the BMW Group plant in Regensburg. The high-voltage batteries for the all-electric variant will also be manufactured at the same plant. With the new BMW iX2, the BMW Group is further accelerating the development of electromobility. In addition, the sophisticated, premium character of the compact SAC is underlined by further advances in the area of sustainability that encompass the complete life cycle of the vehicle - from resource-conserving production to the use phase and subsequent recycling.
Exterior design: original Sports Activity Coupé with dynamic lines and a confident look
The new BMW X2 adopts a distinctive, visually expressive design that clearly differentiates it from the compact Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), BMW X1. As such, it is instantly recognisable as a thoroughbred Sports Activity Coupé (SAC). The new model is also characterised by its dynamic sharp lines and generous surfaces. The new BMW X2 has grown by 194 mm in length compared to its predecessor, reaching 4,554 mm, by 21 mm in width (to 1,845 mm) and by 64 mm in height (to 1,590 mm). In addition, the longer wheelbase and wider tracks increase space in both the five-passenger seats and the boot. The new X2 has a maximum luggage capacity of 560 - 1,470 litres, depending on the version. The BMW iX2 offers between 525 and 1,400 litres.
The model-exclusive, upright front end of the new BMW X2 exudes confidence and dynamism. Key elements at the front of the car are the impressive LED headlights and the almost hexagonal BMW kidney grille, which - for the first time in the premium compact segment - is available with optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. The list of options also includes adaptive LED headlamps with anti-glare matrix beam for the large staircase.
The roofline, which flows seamlessly down to the rear, forms a slim, coupe-like silhouette and proportions in the typical BMW SAC style. At the rear, sharply protruding wheel arches and muscular shoulders steal the show. The horizontal contours of the rear lights, which are custom-designed for the model, enhance the sporty feel, just as they do with the Gurney-style spoiler and the striking rear bumper.
Special M design features, such as the two pairs of exhaust system outlets integrated into the rear bumper, give the BMW X2 M35i xDrive a particularly dynamic feel. The M Sport package is available for all other model versions, including the new BMW iX2, also offering aerodynamically optimised exterior details. The list of options also includes the M Sport Pro package, which adds, among other things, M High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim on several body parts, M Shadowline headlights, M rear spoiler and M Sport braking system with red calipers.
Customers can choose between two plain and eleven metallic exterior colours for the new BMW X2, including the new Fire Red metallic. Two Frozen versions from the BMW Individual collection and a wide range of distinguished BMW Individual finishes are also available.
Luxury environment with a sporty aura and impressive functionality
The interior of the new BMW X2 has a modern premium ambience with sporty touches. The slim instrument panel, which houses the BMW Curved Display, is flanked in the cabin by a "floating" armrest with an integrated control panel. At the front of the center console are two cup holders and a smartphone holder with indirect lighting and wireless charging.
The newly designed seats are also offered in the perforated Veganza version and in Vernasca leather with attractive quilting, as an alternative to the standard fabric upholstery. Customers can also choose sports seats with power adjustment, memory function, lumbar support and massage function. Further improvements have been made to both acoustic comfort and passenger protection. Standard equipment now includes an airbag between the front seats that protects the driver and front passenger.
Expanded basic equipment, targeted personalization
Dual-zone automatic climate control, BMW Maps navigation and a sporty leather steering wheel are standard in the new BMW X2, as are automatic tailgate operation, four USB-C ports and a 12V socket in both the centre console and the luggage compartment. The number of available driver assistance systems and digital services has also increased significantly compared to the previous model.
A range of new equipment packages allow targeted personalisation of the car. Among the options that enhance its premium character are a mirror package, a heated steering wheel and a Harman Kardon audio system. A notable feature of the optional equipment is the panoramic sunroof, in which the dark glass surface extends up to the windscreen and roof frame on either side, ending in a single section at the rear. An optional electric towbar is available on request.
BMW iX 2: premium electric mobility in a compact SAC
An all-electric version will be included in the new SAC model range as early as the launch in the form of the BMW iX2 xDrive30. The two highly integrated drive units - one on the front axle and one on the rear - deliver a combined 313 hp (including instant boost) and a total torque of 494 Nm. The BMW iX2 xDrive30 has 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. The combination of the impressive payload of the 64.8 kWh high-voltage battery and the high efficiency of the drive system ensures a range of 417 - 449 kilometres in the WLTP cycle.
Adaptive energy recovery and MAX RANGE mode also contribute to excellent autonomy. The latest version of the Max Performance Charging software optimises efficiency when charging the car in particular. In addition, the all-electric SAC is equipped for use of the Plug & Charge Multi Contract function. Also available for the BMW iX2 is the new Connected Home Charging Package for intelligent home charging, optimised via solar energy and demand-driven.
The performance model BMW X 2 M 35 i xDrive will already be available from the launch
A performance model that will be available as soon as the new BMW X2 is launched will further highlight the dynamic character of the compact SAC. The new BMW X2 M35i xDrive, with its design features and M handling, is an irresistible proposition. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine delivers a maximum output of 300 hp.
The new BMW X2 M35i xDrive accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. The special M chassis setup works together with the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel drive to ensure outstanding performance. The standard M-adjustable suspension has a positive effect on both agility and comfort on long-distance journeys. M Compound Brakes are offered as an option.
Efficient petrol and diesel engines diesel , seven-speed gearbox Steptronic with double clutch as standard
A three-cylinder petrol engine from the latest modular generation of the Efficient Dynamics family powers the new BMW X2 sDrive20i. In conjunction with the mild 48V hybrid system, the 1.5-litre engine delivers a total maximum output of 170 hp.
The four-cylinder diesel engine in the new BMW X2 sDrive18d has also been extensively upgraded and delivers a maximum output of 150 hp. All internal combustion engines available for the new BMW X2 are connected as standard to a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission.
Optimum combination of agility and driving comfort and 21" light alloy wheels available for the first time for a compact model BMW
The compact SAC's technologically advanced chassis ensures a perfectly harmonious balance between sporty, agile handling on the one hand and long-distance comfort on the other. Key elements here are the body structure, which reduces weight while increasing rigidity, the long wheelbase, the wider tracks compared to the previous model and the targeted upgrades to the front suspension knees and the three-link arrangement of the rear suspension. Near-actuator wheel slip limitation (ARB) technology with a sensor integrated into the engine control unit is standard on the new BMW X2, benefiting both traction levels and directional stability. Other new features include an integrated braking system and passive front-axle dampers that continuously adjust their damping in relation to the corresponding spring travel (lift-related dampers). The optional M-adjustable suspension combines adjustable dampers with frequency-selective damping based on the frequency of vibration with sports steering and a 15 mm reduction in the body's ground clearance.
The new BMW iX2 xDrive30 comes standard with 17-inch light-alloy wheels with aerodynamically optimised design. The BMW X2 sDrive20i and BMW X2 sDrive18d models leave the factory with 18" light-alloy wheels, while the new BMW X2 M35i xDrive comes with 20" light-alloy M wheels. More alloy wheels with 18 - 21" dimensions are available as an option.
State-of-the-art driver assistance systems for greater comfort and safety
The standard and optional assistance systems for automated driving and parking available in the new BMW X2 increase comfort and safety both in everyday driving and on long journeys. Parking Assistant with Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant is also standard.
The range of optional equipment, on the other hand, includes Steering & Lane Control Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Active Navigation, Exit Warning function and BMW Head-Up Display, as well as Surround View, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Remote Theft Recorder. Existing functions can be upgraded via the Remote Software Upgrade feature, which also allows new functions to be added.
The new operating system BMW Operating System 9 and the BMW Digital Premium
The new BMW X2 features the most advanced version of the BMW iDrive display and control/operating system with QuickSelect fast access technology. Based on BMW Operating System 9, it is combined with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and has been carefully configured to be controlled via the touchscreen and voice commands in natural language. BMW Operating System 9 also paves the way for a highly personalised range of additional digital services. With BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades, customers can experience and try out features of their choice free of charge for one month, which they can then add for a specified period of time. Interested parties can also obtain BMW Digital Premium via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store for the new BMW X2.
