The BMW Group and the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga announced today that BMW is the first car manufacturer to test a pilot app with Bundesliga content in a vehicle. Selected content from the Bundesliga - the top division of the German football league - will be made available via an app on the BMW Curved Display. The Bundesliga app will be distributed wirelessly (over-the-air) in the new BMW 7 Series and will initially be available in Germany. Other countries in the regions of Europe, America and Asia will soon follow. The offer may also be extended in the future to newly launched models. The pilot program is initially scheduled to run until March 31, 2024.
For safety reasons, passengers will only be able to watch the video content of the Bundesliga app when the vehicle is stopped. The test focuses on on-demand content, such as highlights or match data, but also on selected live content, specifically tailored for in-vehicle use. When the vehicle is moving, it will be possible to listen to an audio stream of the content. Once the pilot is launched, the Bundesliga In-Car App will be continuously improved.
To use the video streaming function of the Bundesliga app, the customer must first activate his personal eSIM in the vehicle. The antennas installed in the vehicle will then allow him to enjoy high-speed 5G football streaming via his personal mobile contract.
