BMW Group remains on track for success as transformation continues

Zipse: "Exciting products are the best answer to a demanding environment." The expansion of electrification leads to greater CO2 reductions.

In a volatile economic environment, the BMW Group once again posted a strong operating performance in the third quarter. The stable key financial figures are proof of the company's financial success in the face of rising raw material and energy costs.

We are systematically investing for this reason in the NEUE KLASSE technology platform. We strongly believe that these highly innovative products will take our offering to the next level," said Oliver Zipse , Chairman of the Board of Directors of BMW AG. "Our solid third quarter results underline that flexibility creates resilience. Particularly under volatile conditions, our globally balanced footprint and our open approach to technology are proving to be key success factors. That is why, after nine months, we are on track to achieve our full-year targets. In particular, our success in the market for all-electric models means that we can look forward to the coming months with confidence."

The significant increase in sales of pure electric and electric vehicles is also reflected in the reduction of CO2 in the EU's new vehicle fleet: the BMW Group could well exceed its previous target and, based on current data, reduce EU fleet emissions by 5-101 TP2T within a year. A small reduction was previously planned (up to -4.9%).

 

Deliveries of pure electric vehicles more than double.

From the beginning of the year until the end of September, boosted by growing demand, the company delivered over 128,000 electric vehicles customers - more than double the number compared to the same period in 2021 (128.195 units, Jan. - Sep. 2021:59,688 units/ +114,8%). The third quarter saw their sales increase and new orders being placed for the BMW iX 3*, on iX and i 4 and the MINI Cooper SE *, which resulted in a strong order book. The new BMW i 3, the long wheelbase version of the all-electric BMW 3 Series Sedan that recently went on sale in China, is also being well received by customers.

The new BMW X 1 won very positive reviews at its recent world premiere - as did the new BMW Series 7.

Both models are available with different powertrain versions: as pure electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrids (PHEVs) and with petrol and diesel engines. The first, all-electric models are available as BMW i 7* will be launched in November, as will the four-wheel drive BMW iX 1*. Η BMW i 4 eDrive 35*, the new base model for BMW's successful, all-electric mid-size Gran Coupé model, will also be available for the first time. These will be joined in 2023 by the BMW i 5 and the all-electric Rolls Royce Spectre, which was revealed in October.

Despite the impact of global supply chain disruptions and the COVID lockdown in China, the BMW Group delivered in total 1.747.838 vehicles to customers in the first nine months. This represents a modest decrease from the historical high of the previous year (Jan. - Sep. 2021: 1,932,224 units / -9,5%). As a result, the BMW Group remains in the No. 1 position in the luxury segment in Germany and worldwide. With deliveries 587,744 vehicles to customers in the third quarter, sales were at the same level as last year (3ο Quarter / 2021:593.177 units / -0,9%). In the month September, the BMW Group reported strong sales growth 6,6%, with 210.543 vehicle deliveries to customers. The BMW Group confirmed its forecast for the whole of 2022, targeting slightly lower sales than last year and doubling its deliveries of all-electric vehicles.
