Continuing with great determination and dedication its actions in all areas related to environmental protection and sustainability, Ford Motor Hellas took another step by becoming a major sponsor and supporter of the important environmental social responsibility initiative "Clean Ocean - Contributing to a more sustainable future".
With the primary objective of adding another stone to the edifice for environmental protection and public awareness around sustainability issues, the "Clean Ocean - Contribute to a more sustainable future" initiative focuses its actions on the precise location and subsequently the gradual recovery, removal and management of the tyres of vehicles on the seabed of our country's seas.
In this context, the first phase of the initiative, which was successfully completed on the weekend of 8-9 October 2022 and was supported by Ford Motor Hellas, cleaned the seabed from discarded vehicle tyres around the island of Ydrousa, located in Attica, opposite the area of Voula, the circumnavigation of which will form part of the swimming route that has been drawn as part of the 9th XTERRA Open Water Swimming Challenge 2022 that will take place on the weekend of 15-16 October.
The more than 20 vehicle tires, which had already been identified and recorded in the specific marine area, were retrieved from the seabed with the undivided assistance of a team of 10 certified divers of the Special Missions Elite Team of Egaleo and then placed on a floating platform that was provided and provided for the needs of this environmental action by the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni.
Then, this rig was driven to the A' Voula beach, where the tires were cleaned with the contribution of a special fire truck and then loaded into a truck of the Municipality in order to be transported and stored in its premises to be picked up by a special partner-carrier of ECOELASTIKA and to be routed through this management through a proper and appropriate method, always respecting the relevant legislation with the application of strict rules and procedures that promote the circular economy and environmental protection.

Following the highly successful project of recovering tyres from the seabed around the island of Hydra, the "Clean Ocean - Contributing to a sustainable future" initiative will enter its second phase.
The expansion of this environmental initiative will include the possibility for everyone to participate in the effort for cleaner seas, through the creation of an app that will enable everyone to pin the location of the tyres they detect in real time in all the seas of the country, so that they can be removed in an environmentally responsible way.
