With the commercial launch of the new Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe in the Greek market is expected to take place next September, the Jeep announced the technical characteristics of the first Plug-in Hybrid models, which open a new chapter for the legendary brand. Let's take a closer look at them.
The first plug-in hybrid models of Jeep® are just around the corner, with the legendary brand announcing more details of the models that come to confirm its commitment to building vehicles with a pioneering character and a particular sensitivity to environmental protection. The new Jeep Renegade 4xe and Jeep Compass 4xe, along with the environmentally friendly profile, will maintain the traditional elements of the brand, fully expressing the philosophy of "Go Anywhere, Do Anything". At the same time, they will also be the ideal vehicles for daily commuting in the city, since the plug-in hybrid system will offer all-electric propulsion with a 50km range and zero emissions.
They will make no compromises in terms of performance and off-road capabilities, making the most of high performance (up to 240 hp), advanced all-wheel drive (4xe) and state-of-the-art technology. At the same time they will offer extremely low emissions (<50gr/km) and correspondingly extremely low fuel consumption, requiring in the WLTP protocol mixed cycle just 2.1lt/100km.
Both models will combine a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a rear-mounted electric motor powered by an 11.4kWh battery. The battery will be charged, either while the vehicle is in motion, or via a mains socket and even from a simple domestic supply, via the dedicated easyWallbox of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
The turbo petrol engine will be available in two versions, with an output of 130 or 180 hp, while the output of the electric motor will be 60 hp in each case. The combined power output will be 190 hp in the Limited and 240 hp in the versions Trailhawk and S. In terms of torque, the petrol engine will contribute a total of 270Nm, while the electric motor will contribute an additional 250Nm. The combination of the two sets will ensure top performance and a high level of driving pleasure, with acceleration from standstill to 100km/h requiring just 7.5 seconds. Top speed will reach 200km/h, while in pure electric drive the models will be able to reach 130km/h.
TheJeepwill have three operating programs:
- "Electric": All-electric drive with zero emissions, ideal for use in city centres.
- "Hybrid.": Combination of both engines for optimum economy and performance on any kind of route.
- "E-Save": Focus on maintaining the charge level or recharging the battery.
In addition, the option "Sport." will enable the driver to enjoy an even more dynamic choice of engine, steering and gearbox settings.
The Plug-in Hybrid Jeep Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe, will offer a full range of versions, as well as a wide list of colour options and customisation solutions. A common feature will be a wealth of comfort and safety equipment, with a particular focus on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), multimedia systems and, of course, connectivity. In addition, through the new service package Uconnect™ the driver will enjoy a range of smart applications, such as My eCharge which will help in the process of using and paying for charging on a public network.
The innovative technological features of the raw materials plug-in hybrid models will be accompanied by equally advanced charging solutions. In addition to charging the batteries while driving, either during deceleration via energy recovery or directly via the petrol engine, they will also be able to be charged via FCA's exclusive system called easyWallbox, which allows the car to be connected to a simple household network, without the requirement of any electrical work.
Θa will be available in the Greek market from next September. Their features will ensure an innovative driving experience that will be extremely environmentally friendly, without sacrificing the classic Jeep brand values in the slightest. Finally, with a retail price before tax of less than 40,000 euros and emissions <50gr/km, Jeep's first two Plug-in Hybrid models will exempt company car users from paying tax on their company car.
