Nissan: plans major expansion of renewable energy park at Sunderland plant

According to a recent announcement, Nissan is planning a major expansion
renewable energy production,
at its pioneering factory in Sunderland, UK.

Complementing the existing wind turbines and photovoltaic
complex  of the factory, the
proposed extension of 20 MW  by
photovoltaic panels, represents another step in Nissan's journey towards
carbon neutrality.

If the investment plan is approved, the expansion by 37,000 panels will have
as a result 20% of the plant's energy comes from all the
on-site renewable resources and is enough to manufacture any Nissan
LEAF sold in Europe.

The investment plans will be communicated to the local community in the near future, before
from the submission of a formal application for construction approval.

“Οι ανανεώσιμες πηγές έχουν ήδη κάνει μεγάλη διαφορά στις δραστηριότητές
and we continue to look for ways to make the production process
Sunderland. “Καθώς αυξάνεται ο βαθμός εξηλεκτρισμού στα προϊόντα που
we manufacture in Sunderland, our production processes are
important part of the ecosystem that will lead us to the neutrality of the

Nissan started to incorporate renewable energy at Sunderland
in 2005, when it installed its first wind turbines in the region. These
10 wind turbines contribute to a capacity of 6.6 MW, with existing photovoltaic
panels, installed since 2016,  To
deliver 4.75 MW. The proposed expansion of the photovoltaic park of
20MW,  will increase the total production
energy from  renewable sources in the
32MW.

Nissan has set a goal of achieving carbon neutrality in its
its business activities, as well as the life cycle of its products,
by 2050. As part of this effort, in the early 2000s
2030, every new Nissan vehicle  that will
available in key markets, will be "electrified".

Nissan unveils the LEAF, the first mass-production electric vehicle
in the world more than ten years ago. Today, the innovative
Nissan's all-electric model, driven by more than 180,000
EV enthusiasts across Europe.

During this period, LEAF owners prevented the
2.5 million tonnes of CO2 are released into the atmosphere every year, travelling
alongside so many   kilometres that are enough
to travel 400,000 times around the globe!

Στην Ελλάδα, η Nissan – Νικ. Ι.
the protection of the environment, has proceeded to a large photovoltaic investment
complexes at its facilities in Athens, Aspropyrgos and Kalochori
Thessaloniki, promoting and enhancing environmental awareness, as
an integral part of its culture. It is worth noting that the completion
of this investment, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the  successful cooperation  Nissan - Nick. I. Theocharakis S.A.  with Nissan International S.A., which
acquires special symbolism.

This investment by Nissan - Nik. I. Theocharakis S.A. has
nominal  power of 700kW, while in addition to the
assessment to meet its energy needs by 50%, the estimated
annual  avoiding CO
(at Relation by Energy from fossil fuels) will rise
to a total of 678 tons!

With the connection of the PV assemblies
to the domestic electricity grid through the net metering process, the

energy with the energy consumed in its facilities, contributing to the
stabilising the network, for the benefit of society as a whole.

Ι. στην
Athens and Thessaloniki, it will be possible to charge the innovative
of the company's electric models, with electricity from the
photovoltaic complexes, serving in this way  both the privately owned fleet of electric vehicles
as well as the electric cars of its customers/visitors!

promote environmentally friendly investments. In this spirit, the company
applies best recycling practices to all by-products (lubricants,
the public the paper bags made of recyclable materials. At the same time it is worth
that, for decades, at Group level, it has been active in the
photovoltaic parks, with installations already producing 9,000,000 KWh annually
base!
