Audi wants to make a hypercar!

The R8, obviously not enough for the Audi, which has decided to enter on the stage of hypercars with a halo car. This revelation comes from the most official lips, those of CEO of Audi Sport Stephan Winkelmann, who states that the model will be late to come, but he will be placed over the R8.

"I really want to work on it, in the future," said the Audi Sport boss, when asked by Automotive News about a limited production, centrifugal hypercar and stressed: "I believe not only that the brand deserves it, but also that there is demand outside, that customers are looking forward for this."

Of course, as he explains, this will not happen overnight. Η Audi Sport must first expand its range of models with more RS crossovers and electrical cars, before starting to work on a hypercar.

Practically, that doesn't mean we'll see it before 2022, as by 2021, it will present the remaining series of its fast models. Immediately, we will see the RS Q5 and RS Q8 be added to the RS Q3, while already prepared and new publications of RS4 and RS6 based on the new generation of Α6. Later, somewhere in 2020-21, the Audi Sport will present the series of electric e-Tron, while, as Winkelmann said, it will reveal a "coupe-ish sedan" and a "coupe-ish SUV", electric, high performance.
As regards the hypercar, Now, it will be placed at the top of the Audi "pyramid", over the R8 and will be the top model of the brand. That's why Winkelmann says his team will be hard-pressed to get it right, as it is necessary to have a halo model and it has to be done right. "If you have to make it, you always have to have something top of the line," he says.
