Alfa Romeo Carabo steals the show at Milan Design Week

The city of Milan is the design capital of Europe. On the occasion of this year's Milan Design Week (17-23 April), Alfa Romeo in collaboration with the famous Italian house LARUSMIANI, steal the show through a special collaboration. With the futuristic Carabo prototype designed by Bertone in 1968 and based on the legendary 33 Stradale as a reference point, LARUSMIANI launches its new Boutique on MonteNapoleone Street, with the unique model that surprised the public with both its lines and its striking green colour. LARUSMIANI, with more than 100 years of life, represents Italian elegance on a global level, and with the selection of Alfa Romeo Carabo, it launches "The Automotive Gallery" program, through which elements from the automotive world will be showcased in the store. Of course, such an effort in Milan could only start with an Alfa Romeo model, the brand that, like LARUSMIANI, is associated with high aesthetics, design, quality and elegance.

Designed by the legendary designer Marcello Gandini, who collaborated with Bertone, the Carabo prototype is based on the mechanical parts of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, an iconic model that has remained a benchmark since 1967 and to this day for its high aesthetics and perfect balance of volumes. Like the 33 Stradale, the Alfa Romeo Carabo is less than a metre high, but compared to the production model all the curved surfaces have given way to straight lines in the prototype. Every aesthetic element in the Carabo is absolutely "clean", and the model's design has been an inspiration for many other models, not exclusively Alfa Romeo.

The name Carabo of the prototype is inspired by Carabus auratus, a species of scarab beetle with an impressive "metallic" colour. This is the basis for the prototype with its distinctive "luminous" green and orange details. The 1960s were also marked for Alfa Romeo by the special colour choices and the innovative car paint solutions developed by the Italian brand.

On the occasion of the presence of Alfa Romeo Carabo in the LARUSMIANI showcase, Mr. Raffaele Russo, Managing Director of Alfa Romeo in Italy said: "I'm sure the presence of the futuristic prototype Carabo is a particularly pleasant surprise for his friends Milan Design Week. As an excellent example of the timeless Italian design, this unique exhibit of the Museum of Alfa Romeo at Arese comes closer than ever to the public, marking an extraordinary chapter in automotive design."
