Fiat 600: Dolce Vita in Rome without camouflage

A few days after his appearance in Germany, the new model was briefly seen on the streets of Rome for the commercial shoot. The name 600 is official, as you can see from the front. Alongside the Jeep Avenger, Both a thermal and an electric version are expected.

Just a few days ago a model was spotted in Germany during technical tests. And now it is even more clearly presented in Rome, according to the publication of Gazetta.it. The Fiat 600 of the 21st century is now ready to be officially unveiled. And it will indeed be called that, as shown by the car circulating in Rome for promotional filming. Because it says so, it shows in your eyes.

The 600 name is prominently displayed on the front, just above the personalised number plate, in the style used by car manufacturers to identify a new model in images being prepared for release. This confirms the strategy launched years ago for the 500: transforming the model into a distinct, premium brand. Looking at the back, in fact, you can see that only on the rear side is the Fiat logo visible. It will certainly be an electric car, as is the model that is being released "on the set" in Rome. But, as is the case with the Jeep Avenger, a petrol version is expected to be produced for certain markets, especially Italy.

The new Fiat 600 will be an urban SUV, which will probably be launched in 2023. Above is the model already captured on the streets of Germany with promotional stickers, but now without camouflage. Another sign that the arrival is indeed near. The Fiat 600 obviously takes a historic Italian car name, but that's no accident. It's not intended to replace the 500X model, but to complement the 500 range, which is increasingly taking on a personality of its own within the Fiat range.

As it is known, the new Fiat 600 will share the Cmp engine platform with the newly launched Jeep Avenger, and also with Alfa Romeo's future urban SUV, all of which will be produced at the Tychy plant in Poland. What should differentiate it from the 500X, which is 426cm long, is a body designed to approximate the 408cm of the Avenger, which in turn is 177cm wide and 152cm tall. The side view shows a much softer curve of the rear pillar, while the front end is said to be inspired by the 500's appearance, hence with rounded headlights and a rather rounded bonnet, another significant difference from the Avenger's design.

On paper, the Fiat 600 will feature the twin engine solution we've already seen in the Jeep Avenger, namely the 1.2 Gse T3, which is a 1.2 litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a stated power output of 100bhp, a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive. Instead, the zero-emission version will be entrusted to the first power unit built by eMotors, a 50/50 joint venture between Stellantis and Nidec. Its power output is 115 kW or 156 hp with a maximum torque of 260 Nm, all of which is assigned to a gearbox and front-wheel drive only. In the Jeep Avenger, the lithium-ion battery has a net capacity of 51 kWh in 17 units and 102 cells distributed under the front and rear seats and also under the central tunnel, with a smartly reduced footprint, with a declared range corresponding to 400 km average mileage, 550 km in the city.
