Dodge Charger Daytona: The first electric muscle car...that doesn't refuse gasoline (Video)

With a video of cinematic standards, the Dodge presented the new generation of Charger, the world's first all-electric Muscle, with a look from the iconic 1969 Charger, linking the past with the future. Available in three-door and five-door versions, and in the near future we will see it with powerful petrol engines.

At the beginning of the video, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis steps into the new model and travels back in time to 1910, where he meets the Dodge brothers and introduces them to the new all-muscle car, the Dodge Charger Daytona.

Gone are the days of petrol-powered muscle cars and their thundering V8s? Almost, but not yet. In fact, a new chapter begins today for one of the icons of American motoring: Dodge has unveiled the first 100% electric Charger Daytona, available in the 496-horsepower R/T version and the more powerful 670-horsepower Scat Pack. On request, a track-specific package with real-time telemetry and advanced engineering equipment. In the future, the range will be extended with 420 and 550 hp petrol engines.

Dodge is ushering in a new era in automotive muscle cars, today unveiling the world debut of its latest creation: the new Dodge Charger, the world's first and only electric muscle car and the brand's first multi-energy muscle car. The legendary Dodge Charger enters a new era with electric propulsion.

The most powerful muscle car in the world

The new all-electric 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack 2024 retains the title of the world's fastest and most powerful muscle car, producing 670 horsepower. It is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and complete the quarter mile in about 11.5 seconds. The 496-horsepower 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T also joins the lineup of electric-powered models. The next-generation Dodge Charger comes standard with all-wheel drive on all models and features a range of multi-energy powertrain options for customized performance. These options include the Dodge Charger SIXPACK HO, which delivers 550 horsepower from the 3.0 Twin Turbo Hurricane High Output engine, and the Dodge Charger SIXPACK SO, with 420 horsepower powered by the 3.0L Twin Turbo Hurricane Standard Output engine.

Production of the two-door coupe versions of the new 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack and the all-electric 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T will begin in mid-2024. As for the all-electric Daytona Scat Pack and four-door R/T models, production will begin in the first quarter of 2025. During the same period, we expect to begin production of the two-door Dodge Charger SIXPACK HO and four-door Dodge Charger SIXPACK SO models with internal combustion engines. All of these models will be built at the Windsor, Ontario assembly plant.

And petrol engines

The announcement of the all-electric Charger Daytona models and the Charger SIXPACK variants powered by the Hurricane engine is an important step that aligns with Stellantis' Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. This plan calls for the adoption of electrified and more efficient propulsion systems to reduce the group's global carbon footprint by 50% by 2030. In addition, Stellantis aims to drive the transport sector towards zero net carbon emissions by 2038. These new Dodge models embody the brand's commitment to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

The new Dodge Charger marks a major evolution in Dodge's muscle brotherhood, introducing the first fully electric muscle car. These next-generation models pioneer the adoption of the STLA Large platform, a highly versatile native BEV platform that offers tremendous power potential. Thanks to a wide range of suspension units and drivetrain mounts, vehicle performance can be tailored to the specific objectives of each model.

The all-electric, four-wheel drive Dodge Charger Daytona models are powered by a 400V powertrain that delivers turbocharged V-8 performance with zero emissions and instant torque response. This system includes a high-voltage battery, an integrated dual charging unit and an electric drive module (EDM) in both the front and rear. The front EDM uses front wheel end decoupling to improve range and performance, while the rear EDM includes a limited-slip mechanical differential to increase traction and performance. Both EDMs feature a 3-in-1 architecture.

The battery pack is designed to offer an installed capacity of 100.5 kW and a maximum discharge rate of 550 kW, optimising acceleration to make the most of battery power during intense acceleration, such as during quarter-mile acceleration. Its prismatic cell structure provides greater structural stability and superior thermal efficiency due to its rigid housing, thereby reducing battery temperature during high-speed performance. The aluminum-nickel-cobalt chemistry of the cells offers higher power per gram, comparable to the high-octane fuel efficiency of electric battery versions.

The 400V propulsion system integrates six levels of performance into a single drive system. The 2024 Charger Daytona R/T is available as standard with the standard Direct Connection Stage 1 upgrade kit, which increases output by 40 horsepower to a total of 496 horsepower. The Daytona Scat Pack model, on the other hand, includes the Stage 2 kit, which adds an additional 80 horsepower for a total of 670 horsepower.

The new Dodge Charger is imbued with the pure DNA of a muscle car, both in its exterior design and its interior. The Charger comes with a host of performance features, including PowerShot mode that offers a 40-horsepower boost for Charger Daytona models, Drag, Track, Drift and Donut modes, 20-inch wheels with 305 front and 325 rear tires, the largest brake package ever offered on a Dodge vehicle, semi-active dual-valve suspension, race-ready features, Line Lock, Launch Control and more, and all-wheel drive is standard on all Charger models.
