This is the new Peugeot 408: Coming in 2023

Με το νέο 408, η PEUGEOT επιδεικνύει τη δημιουργικότητα των ομάδων της, προσφέροντας ένα νέο αμάξωμα ‘fastback’ στην κορυφή του segment C. The PEUGEOT 408 stands out first and foremost for its dynamic 'fastback' silhouette and unparalleled style, but also for the extent to which it challenges the status quo. The distinctive feline appearance is an element that now distinguishes the brand's models. Its lines are sharp, the grille is in the same colour as the bodywork to blend perfectly with the front end, and is adorned with the new PEUGEOT lion's head badge. The inverted shape of the rear bumper gives the profile a strong personality. The new PEUGEOT 408 seems to tread resolutely on 720 mm diameter wheels, and the iconic 20-inch wheels present a subversive geometric design. At the front, the signature lighting with the now familiar 'fangs' ideally integrates the 408 into the PEUGEOT family, as do the LED tail lights with their three 'fangs'.

With a length of 4.69m, and a long wheelbase of 2.79m, the new PEUGEOT 408 offers enviable comfort for rear seat occupants, as evidenced by the 188mm of legroom available for their feet. In the same vein, the dimensions of the luggage compartment are just as generous, offering a total capacity of 536 litres, a figure that can be increased to as much as 1,611 litres with the rear seats folded down. The new PEUGEOT 408 is 1.48 metres tall and stands out for its slim and sculpted silhouette, which also makes a decisive contribution to improving its aerodynamic performance.

For both driver and passengers, the PEUGEOT 408 offers the latest generation of the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®, which is instantly recognisable by its small-diameter steering wheel, and also helps to ensure driving pleasure and perfectly controlled agility.

Inside, and particularly in the driving position, the emphasis is on quality and connectivity, with the latest technologies available to make the driving experience more intuitive and interactive.

Thanks to 6 cameras and 9 radars, the driver assistance systems provide the driver and passengers with peace of mind and safety. These include:

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function,
Night Vision, which warns of the presence of animals, pedestrians or cyclists in the path of the car before they are illuminated by the car's headlamp beams,
Long-range blind spot monitoring, 75 meters,
Rear Traffic Alert, which warns of a potential collision.

The range of engines available for the new PEUGEOT 408 includes two plug-in hybrid versions with 180 and 225 hp, and a petrol version with 130 hp. All three engines are available with the 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission. A few months later, the range will be completed with a purely electric version.

Economy was one of the main concerns of the designers of the PEUGEOT 408. The joint effort to improve aerodynamics, reduce weight (from 1396 kg) and develop low-emission engines resulted in the creation of a model that achieves extremely low average energy consumption (pending approval), whether in its hybrid versions or the 130 hp petrol version.

The new PEUGEOT 408 will be launched in early 2023. A car with international commercial career ambitions that will be built initially for the European market in Mulhouse, France, and immediately afterwards at the Chengdu plant for the local market in China.

The design

Combined with the feline stance of all PEUGEOTs, the official language of the new 408 is perfectly in line with the innovative concept of the top fastback in segment C. It is characterised by particularly sharp surface edges, which are most noticeable at the rear: at the roofline, and at the base of the wings, and these sharp edges are designed to play with light.

The 408 has a unique exterior architecture. Based on the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) multi-engine platform, the model with its long wheelbase of 2.787m offers excellent space for rear passengers. Its overall length reaches 4.69m and its width, with the mirrors folded, is 1.859m.

The wide tracks (1.599m front and 1.604m rear) confirm the car's sure grip on the road, while the same role is played by the large diameter wheels (720mm) and the diameter of the wheels that reach up to 20in. Although the body of the new PEUGEOT 408 is taller, it retains an extremely slim silhouette and a sporty profile thanks to its overall height of no more than 1.48m.

At the front, the long bonnet framed by raised wings, a feature that is characteristic of all the latest PEUGEOT models, stands out. This stylistic choice enhances the appearance of the front end while streamlining the profile, as the wing-bonnet joint is almost invisible. This construction principle also simplifies the outer bonnet line and enables the body parts to fit perfectly.

The Matrix LED technology used in the lights has contributed to the creation of these ultra-thin luminaires, while ensuring a top level of lighting efficiency. These headlights are also the hallmark of the new 408: a feature that says it is undoubtedly a PEUGEOT. The lighting signature extends downwards with two fang-shaped LED strips that penetrate deep into the bumper.

Bodywork and engines

Economy has always been the primary objective of PEUGEOT's designers and development teams and the same applies to the new 408, in which the aim was to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

Particular emphasis was placed on the aerodynamics of the new PEUGEOT 408 to improve the energy balance. Bumper, rear spoiler, diffuser, body pillars, mirrors, underbody surfaces, all body parts have been optimised thanks to the close collaboration of PEUGEOT's stylists and aerodynamicists - a collaboration that echoes the discipline that has governed PEUGEOT's design and engineering teams since the days of the Hypercar 9X8. In the same spirit, the wheel design allows for better aerodynamic performance and contributes significantly to the overall performance of the car.

The degree of body rigidity is also optimised thanks to new methods of welding the structural elements, in order to improve comfort and reduce vibration. Driving pleasure is part of the DNA of the new PEUGEOT 408, thanks to its exemplary road handling, top level of driving comfort, very high driving pleasure, while city driving is also ideal, thanks to a turning radius between kerbs of no more than 11.18m.

The diameter of the wheels on the new PEUGEOT 408 ranges from 17 to 20 inches. The tyres are Class A to improve economy by reducing rolling resistance, but without requiring any compromise in terms of the brand's requirements in terms of excellent road grip.

The new PEUGEOT 408 is available with two plug-in hybrid engines:

PLUG-IN HYBRID 225 e-EAT8: 2-wheel drive / combination of 180 hp PureTech engine (132 kW) and 81 kW electric motor, and 8-speed e-EAT8 automatic transmission (in the approval process).
PLUG-IN HYBRID 180 e-EAT8: 2-wheel drive / combination of 150 hp PureTech engine (110 kW) and 81 kW electric motor and 8-speed e-EAT8 automatic transmission (in the approval process).
The lithium-ion battery in both plug-in hybrid versions has a capacity of 12.4kWh and delivers 102 kW. Two types of integrated chargers are available : a 3.7kW single-phase charger as standard and an optional 7.4kW single-phase charger.

The estimated charging times are:
By Wall Box (32 A) of 7.4kW and with the 7.4kW single-phase built-in charger, for a full charge in 1 hour and 55 minutes.
With a boosted supply (16 A) and the 3.7kW single-phase built-in charger, for a full charge in 3 hours and 50 minutes.
from a conventional supply (8A) and with the single-phase built-in charger of 3.7kW, for a full charge in about 7.5 hours.

The model is also available with an internal combustion engine: the 130hp PureTech 3-cylinder petrol engine, which meets EURO 6.4 emission standards and is mated to the 8-speed EAT8 automatic transmission with Start & Stop. This version is currently in the process of type approval.

It should be noted that all engines of the new PEUGEOT 408 are equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission, which guarantees calm and economical driving.

The model will not be available in a diesel version, while a 100% electric version will be launched in the near future.

High technology: night vision and other driver assistance systems

The new PEUGEOT 408 is equipped with a full range of the latest generation of driver assistance systems, which receive information from 6 cameras and 9 radar systems, making driving, manoeuvring and travelling safer and more relaxed. Some of these systems come straight from higher-end models:

Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go function and adjustable distance from the vehicle in front.
Automatic emergency braking with imminent collision warning: detects the presence of pedestrians and cyclists day and night, at speeds from 7 to 140 km/h depending on the version.
Active lane departure warning and lane correction.
Driver distraction warning. Identifies driver inattention during long hours of driving and at speeds above 65 km/h by analysing the micro-movements of the steering wheel.
Extended recognition of road signs and their display on the digital instrument panel: stop signs, one-way signs, no-passing signs, no-passing end, in addition to the usual signs concerning speed limits.
Night Vision system. Identifies pedestrians and animals in the path of the car in night driving or low visibility conditions. The system's range ensures detection beyond the range of the headlamp beam, and displays an infrared display on the central screen of the digital instrument panel located directly in front of the driver's field of vision.
Long range blind spot monitoring (75 meters).
Rear traffic alert: when reversing, warns the driver of an imminent dangerous situation.
High-definition reversing camera with 180° field coverage with integrated wash system.
Parking assistance with 360° field coverage with the help of 4 high-definition cameras (front, rear and side)
Changing the inclination of the side mirror when selecting reverse.
Matrix LED technology headlights, for ideal use of the headlights without blinding the vehicles ahead or cars driving oncoming traffic

Το πακέτο Drive Assist 2.0 αποτελεί ένα ακόμη βήμα προς την ημιαυτόνομη οδήγηση, που θα είναι διαθέσιμη στο μέλλον. Το συγκεκριμένο πακέτο περιλαμβάνει το Προσαρμοζόμενο Cruise Control με λειτουργία Stop and Go και το σύστημα υποβοήθησης διατήρησης λωρίδας κυκλοφορίας.

Διαθέτει δύο επιπλέον λειτουργίες που βοηθούν την οδήγηση σε δρόμους διπλής κυκλοφορίας:

Για τη διευκόλυνση της καθημερινής οδήγησης του νέου PEUGEOT 408, διατίθενται ακόμη:

Hands-free access σύστημα πρόσβασης και εκκίνησης,
Μηχανισμός ηλεκτρικού ανοίγματος του πορτμπαγκάζ σε περίπτωση που τα χέρια του χρήστη είναι πιασμένα,
Πλήρες ξεθόλωμα θερμαινόμενου παρμπρίζ και θερμαινόμενη στεφάνη τιμονιού,
Περιμετρικός, ογκομετρικός συναγερμός με λειτουργία suer κλειδώματος,
Ηλεκτρικό χειρόφρενο σε όλες τις εκδόσεις,
Ηλιοροφή με κουρτίνα.

Το νέο PEUGEOT 408 εξοπλίζεται με σύστημα e-call assistance:
E-call + κλήση έκτακτης ανάγκης με ενημέρωση για τον αριθμό των επιβατών και γεω-εντοπισμό που περιλαμβάνει και την κατεύθυνση του αυτοκινήτου στο δρόμο.

Εσωτερικό για ευεξία

Σχεδιασμένο ως κορυφαίο fastback στο segment C, το νέο PEUGEOT 408 προσφέρει μια ευρεία γκάμα εξοπλισμού που έχει σχεδιαστεί για να σας βοηθήσει να εκμεταλλευθείτε πλήρως την απόλαυση του ταξιδιού και την κάθε σας διαδρομή.

Τα εμπρός καθίσματα είναι ιδιαίτερα άνετα και διαθέτουν πιστοποίηση AGR (Aktion für Gesunder Rücken) από τον ανεξάρτητο Γερμανικό Οργανισμό εργονομίας και υγείας της σπονδυλικής στήλης. Η συγκεκριμένη πιστοποίηση επιβραβεύει τόσο την εργονομία όσο και την πληθώρα ρυθμίσεων των εμπρός καθισμάτων.

Τα καθίσματα μπορούν επίσης να εφοδιαστούν με ηλεκτρικό μηχανισμό 10 ρυθμίσεων με δύο θέσεις μνήμης για τον οδηγό, 6 θέσεων ηλεκτρική ρύθμιση για το συνοδηγό καθώς και 8 ειδικών αεροθαλάμων με 5 διαφορετικά προγράμματα για λειτουργία μασάζ και θέρμανσής τους.

Ο σχεδιασμός των καθισμάτων έχει μελετηθεί έτσι ώστε να προβάλλεται η ποιότητα των χρησιμοποιούμενων υλικών: διάστικτο ύφασμα, περίτεχνη ύφανση, alcantara, σαγρέ δέρμα και έγχρωμο δέρμα νάπα. Στις εκδόσεις GT, τα καθίσματα διαθέτουν εμφανείς ραφές σε χρώμα Adamite, που διακοσμεί επίσης και το ταμπλό, τα πάνελ των θυρών και τα μαξιλάρια αφρού στην κεντρική κονσόλα.

Ανάμεσα στα εμπρός καθίσματα, η αψίδα της κεντρικής κονσόλας διαθέτει ειδική θέση ασύρματης φόρτισης του smartphone. Οι υπόλοιποι αποθηκευτικοί χώροι στην κονσόλα εξασφαλίζουν άνεση και πρακτικότητα. Υποβραχιόνιο, δύο θύρες USB C (φόρτιση/δεδομένα), δύο μεγάλης διαμέτρου ποτηροθήκες και διάφοροι αποθηκευτικοί χώροι συνολικής χωρητικότητας έως και 33λίτρα.

Οι χώροι για τους πίσω επιβάτες είναι ιδιαίτερα γενναιόδωροι, χάρη στο μακρύ μεταξόνιο των 2.787μ., που καθιστά το νέο 408, το πιο ευρύχωρο PEUGEOT για τους πίσω: καθώς έχουν στη διάθεσή τους 188χλστ. «αέρα» για τα γόνατά τους. Το πάτωμα παρέχει χώρο στους πίσω επιβάτες για να τεντώσουν τα πόδια τους κάτω από τα εμπρός καθίσματα και έχει σχεδιαστεί για να μεγιστοποιεί την ελευθερία των κινήσεων. Η σχεδίαση των καθισμάτων και η κλίση τους, έχουν σκοπό να δώσουν στους επιβάτες την ευκαιρία να αξιοποιήσουν στο έπακρο τον χώρο τους για βέλτιστη άνεση κατά τη διάρκεια των ταξιδιών.

Στην πίσω πλευρά της κεντρικής κονσόλας υπάρχουν δύο θύρες USB C για φόρτιση συσκευών και σύνδεση τηλεφώνων, από το επίπεδο εξοπλισμού Allure και πάνω.

Το νέο PEUGEOT 408 προσφέρει στο βασικό του εξοπλισμό ασύμμετρα (60/40) αναδιπλούμενο πίσω κάθισμα που διαθέτει και θυρίδα μεταφοράς πέδιλων του σκι. Στο GT, τα δύο τμήματα μπορούν να αναδιπλωθούν αμέσως μέσω δύο μοχλών, εύκολα προσβάσιμων από τις πλευρές του πορτμπαγκάζ.

Το πορτμπαγκάζ του νέου 408 αποδεικνύεται εξαιρετικά ευρύχωρο. Όταν διπλωθεί η πλάτη και των δύο μερών του πίσω καθίσματος, η χωρητικότητα αυξάνεται από 536 σε 1.611 λίτρα (συμπεριλαμβανομένων 36 λίτρων αποθηκευτικού χώρου κάτω από το δάπεδο του πορτμπαγκάζ για την έκδοση με τον κινητήρα εσωτερικής καύσεως). Με την πλάτη αναδιπλωμένη, μπορεί να μεταφερθούν φορτία μήκους έως και 1,89 μέτρων.

Για μεγαλύτερη πρακτικότητα στην καθημερινή χρήση, ο χώρος του πορτμπαγκάζ διαθέτει ρευματολήπτη 12V στη δεξιά πλευρά του, φωτισμό LED, δίχτυ αποθήκευσης, ιμάντες στερέωσης, και άγκιστρα για μεταφορά τσαντών.

Η πίσω εταζέρα είναι απευθείας στερεωμένη στην πόρτα του πορτμπαγκάζ και ανασηκώνεται κάθε φορά που αυτή ανοίγει, ώστε να διευκολύνεται η φόρτωση.

Η πόρτα του χώρου αποσκευών είναι ηλεκτροκίνητη έτσι ώστε να διευκολύνει το χρήστη στην περίπτωση που τα χέρια του είναι πιασμένα. Ανοίγει αυτόματα με τους ακόλουθους τρόπους:
Μετακινώντας το πόδι κάτω από τον πίσω προφυλακτήρα,
Πατώντας το πλήκτρο στο τηλεχειριστήριο του κλειδιού,
Πατώντας το πλήκτρο στην πόρτα του πορτμπαγκάζ,
Πατώντας το πλήκτρο στο ταμπλό.

Lighting

Στο εσωτερικό του νέου 408, ο LED εσωτερικός φωτισμός (8 επιλογές απόχρωσης) που βρίσκεται πίσω από την κεντρική οθόνη εκπέμπει ένα απαλό φως και συμβάλλει στη δημιουργία μίας σοφιστικέ ατμόσφαιρας στην καμπίνα. Ο ίδιος φωτισμός υπάρχει και στα αφρώδη πάνελ των θυρών, τα οποία είτε είναι καλυμμένα ή με ύφασμα, ή Alcantara® είτε διαθέτουν διακοσμητικά από γνήσιο πρεσαριστό αλουμίνιο, ανάλογα με το επίπεδο εξοπλισμού.

Αναβαθμισμένο είναι και το επίπεδο θερμοκρασιακής και ακουστικής άνεσης στο νέο PEUGEOT 408, χάρη στις τεχνολογίες που χρησιμοποιούνται στη σχεδίαση και την κατασκευή των παραθύρων του:

Προαιρετικά, το παρμπρίζ μπορεί να είναι πλήρως θερμαινόμενο,
Αυξήθηκε το πάχος των εμπρός και πίσω παραθύρων (3.85χλστ.)
Τα εμπρός πλευρικά παράθυρα διαθέτουν σκουρόχρωμα κρύσταλλα (από το επίπεδο Allure Pack) για καλύτερη ηχομόνωση και αυξημένη ασφάλεια (3,96 mm).

Επίσης και το σύστημα κλιματισμού συμβάλλει στη θερμική άνεση των επιβατών. Οι αεραγωγοί που φέρνουν φρέσκο αέρα στην καμπίνα βρίσκονται ψηλά τοποθετημένοι και οι επιβάτες των πίσω θέσεων διαθέτουν δύο αεραγωγούς που βρίσκονται στο πίσω μέρος της κεντρικής κονσόλας. Για να εξασφαλίσει μια υγιή εσωτερική ατμόσφαιρα, το νέο PEUGEOT 408 είναι εξοπλισμένο με το σύστημα AQS (Air Quality System), το οποίο παρακολουθεί συνεχώς την ποιότητα του αέρα που εισέρχεται στον χώρο επιβατών, και έχει τη δυνατότητα να ενεργοποιεί αυτόματα την ανακύκλωση αέρα. Από το επίπεδο GT και πάνω, αυτό συμπληρώνεται από το Clean Cabin, ένα σύστημα επεξεργασίας αέρα που φιλτράρει τα ρυπογόνα αέρια και τα σωματίδια. Η ποιότητα του αέρα εμφανίζεται στην κεντρική οθόνη αφής.

Προϊόν της συνεργασίας με τη Focal, μια γαλλική μάρκα που ειδικεύεται στα ηχοσυστήματα, το σύστημα FOCAL® Premium Hi-Fi στο νέο PEUGEOT 408 είναι το αποτέλεσμα τριών και πλέον ετών συνεργασίας. Ολοκληρωμένο και με τον ψηφιακό επεξεργαστή της ARKAMYS, το σύστημα FOCAL® Premium Hi-Fi περιλαμβάνει 10 ηχεία με αποκλειστικές πατενταρισμένες τεχνολογίες:
4 TNF tweeter αλουμινίου ανεστραμμένου θόλου,
4 woofer/midrange μεμβράνης Polyglass και ανάρτηση 165mm TMD (Tuned Mass Damper),
1 Κεντρικό ηχείο Polyglass,
1 Power Flower™ οβάλ 3πλής περιέλιξης subwoofer.
